Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, As we continue to pray for all those suffering as a result of the Pandemic, lets continue our prayers for the victims of the equally deadly crime of abortion that continues to scourge the world. Frequently in her apparitions around the world, reference has been made by our Blessed Mother to her holding back the full effects of a sinful world. When will our world learn to turn away from sin and believe the good news? Let us continue to pray, fast and practice charity for the intention of reparation to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. With ongoing appreciation for all who have bought or sold car raffle tickets we are reporting the sale of 390 tickets through this past week. With less than two weeks until the drawing date we are still looking to top last year’s sales of 750 tickets. Additional thanks to the Development Committee of our School Board who has been in contact with our SSPJ Alumni to expand the level of support for this fundraiser. Thank you to all for promoting the Thanks-For-Giving Raffle as the net proceeds will benefit our Parish School. Can you believe that the holidays are almost here again? Please be advised that we will have expanded use of tickets for the Holy Masses of Christmas. Because of uncertain quotas of allowed attendance, this seems to be a safe way of not having to turn people away. However, I presume attendance will still be optional due to Covid concerns. We will, in accord with the recent permission given by the Archbishop, have an additional Christmas Vigil Mass at 2:30 PM. Another change is our 10 PM Mass is changed to 9 PM. Tickets for all Masses of Christmas at SSPJ will be distributed: two per person after the Masses of December 8th and the remaining Sundays of Advent. PLEASE NOTE: Tickets will not be given out in any other setting at any other times. Please do not stop at or call the Rectory, our limited staff cannot be involved with ticket distribution. See below for the revised Christmas Mass Schedule which will also be mailed to your home with the envelope for the Christmas collection. Your continued wonderful generosity to our parish and its good works is a great blessing to many.
CHRISTMAS EVE MASSES* VIGIL MASSES
Thursday, December 24th 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
CHRISTMAS DAY MASSES*
Friday, December 25th 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM - 12 Noon
*TICKETS WILL BE NECESSARY for all Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, due to COVID Limitations. We are hoping to have 400 tickets per Mass.
Tickets will be distributed in Church beginning December 8 and the Sundays of Advent Over the past several months a few have asked about reciting the traditional prayer to St. Michael the Archangel after Mass. As I have often told people, I’m ancient enough to remember the “Leonine Prayers” after Mass for the conversion of Russia. These were removed with the revised liturgy in the 60’s due to the revival of the ancient practice of the “Prayer of the Faithful” or “Intercessions” after the homily or Creed. While devotion to any of the Saints or Angels is a good thing, as a pastor, I feel we cannot add prayers at the end of Mass. Such prayers are to be prayed whether in private or in group before or after the liturgy.

Annual Thanksgiving Outreach. We are going CONTACTLESS! We will have tables outside for you to lay your meals on or you can pull up and pop your trunk and we will have one of our volunteers take the meal out of your car. Whatever will make you comfortable during this pandemic. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this outreach, all that is required is for you to provide the frozen turkey and fixings needed for a complete Thanksgiving meal to be prepared in the home for a family in need. Basic suggestions are a frozen turkey, 2 boxes of stuffing, a large box of mashed potatoes, 4 or more cans of vegetables, cranberry sauce, gravy, dessert (not frozen), rolls/bread and an aluminum roasting pan. (THERE IS NO COOKING REQUIRED ON YOUR PART). Please feel free to add anything else you may want to make your meal special. In order to have this outreach run smoothly, we need an approximate count on how many meals we will be transporting. Please contact Scott or Debbie McNamee at 610-429-9606 with how many meals you will be providing and/or any questions you may have. Drop off will be Sunday, November 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon outside the school cafeteria. Thank you!
The 2020 Ss. Philip & James Chester County Christmas program is live! Our Virtual Giving Tree shows the Christmas wishes for children, just like the yellow stars of years past. The address is https://
www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0D49ACA82FA6FB6-chester - you can also use the link on the Parish website, or click on the QR Code using your mobile device. You can also request to sponsor a child by contacting us directly – if you leave a message, let us know the preferred gender and age range. Instead of the Red Bell ornaments, we are asking for grocery store gift cards which will be given to the families. Remember, we will not have a Giving Tree in church, but will have an information table in the Narthex during the weekend of November 14th & 15th. All gifts and gift cards will be collected at church during the weekend of December 5th & 6th. For more information, please contact Doug or Maria Weems at (610) 594-9798 or [email protected].
Attention Parishioners: Although Youth Ministry (YPC) has been suspended due to COVID, we will sell the
Christmas candy to those who wish to or-der in advance and pick up at Karen’s home which is close to SSPJ (phone: 610-363-1484). All profits will support Christ-mas gifts for children in the Care Center for Christ and the Literacy Center.
Bulletin Announcements for the November 29 Bulletin are to be emailed to the Rectory November 17.
