SAINTS’ Scoop Newsletter April 29, 2020 Dear Queen of All Saints Families, A silver lining in our remote learning during the shelter in place is that many of our families have the opportunity to participate in school events that typically only students are involved in. So… put on your running shoes and sweats, and get ready to show your family’s spirit and have some fun as we get ready to celebrate Spirit Week (see page 10) and get moving in the Run for Fun! For the Wednesday, May 6th Run for Fun, you will want your child to have their Run for Fun t-shirt so you can check off the boxes for each of the exercises or laps they complete. All of the t-shirts are ready for pick-up 8:00-noon Monday-Thursday in the school office. Coach Schonder did an amazing job creating activities for an at-home version of our annual fitness event so that all students and families can participate. Coach will review the exercise list and Zoom schedule before the event so you will be prepared for the day. See the schedule and links on page 2 of the Scoop. QAS Community Outreach Opportunity Our school’s Mission Statement says that we “actively serve the community”, so what a better way to serve our community than to provide community outreach to our own families in need. PACE and School Board have provided a way for you to provide “Outreach to our frontline, essential worker, or overstretched community members who could use a welcomed dinner break!” Click on this QAS Community Outreach Opportunity link if you would like to provide a meal or gift card to a family or if you are a family that would benefit from a dinner break. Don’t forget to: · Dust off your dancing shoes, exercise those vocal cords, and get ready to showcase your talents for our QAS Family Virtual Talent Show! · Prepare to share your family’s favorite recipe for our Multicultural Day celebration – perhaps we can make a QAS cookbook of family recipes! · 6 th and 7th-grade students – get ready to run for next year’s Student Government elections. You will be the first officers to run in a virtual campaign! Christ's peace and joy surround you, Mrs. Lucia Prince

For more Queen of All Saints Church News, pay attention to your latest Flocknotes from Father Neal. If you have not already, please create an account so you can receive up to date parish news. Preschool Our Preschoolers are learning all about weather this week. Their futures are bright, so they have to wear shades! Mrs. Lew read them a Pete the Cat story while Mrs. Martin helped students figure out what clothing works best on sunny days. They are also finishing up their study of the alphabet, so X and Y were on their radars this week, and you can see Madison Galdamez’s X worksheet below.

Transitional Kindergarten Mrs. Blumling and her class are celebrating the Easter season with some interactive learning! TK students created Resurrection crosses, designed eggs and (sorted & graphed) jelly beans with a lot of enthusiasm! Xavier Leyva and Moses Martinez share their jelly bean counting with us below. Also, you can enjoy Philip Chau and Jackson Lockhart’s Resurrection crosses. Our TK students are also working on the alphabet, and this week their focus is the fantastic letter F.

2nd Grade Students in 2nd grade are working on learning the life cycle of a frog in Science this week, and you can see Peyton Naca and Declan Richards-Costello’s rendering here. Ms. Gillman has them creating their own multiplication math learning games that involve matching, too. Zoie Torres shares her game cards with us below. For grammar this week, they are focusing on contractions. It’s been a great April for 2nd grade.

3rd Grade Third Grade is beginning their own class newspaper, where they will collaborate and report on current events of their lives and share things they are learning and doing during quarantine. So far, they have a few submissions waiting to be edited for the first ever edition of "Third Grade Chronicles." These articles are about baking, car remodeling, special family birthdays, and Lego car races. Stay tuned for more third grade stories. We have some pictures of Ethan Ariazza in his mom's Jeep without doors and a roof and Yob Pascual with his baking creation. They are also enjoying learning to use edpuzzle together. Keep on keeping on Mrs. McMillan and the third grade!

4th Grade Mr. Santana and his students have begun a new class book called, "Mason and theMega-nauts" by Helene Bordreau. They are learning more about different vocabulary words as well as exploring the literary genre of Myths like Hercules. Finally, our fourth graders are still working to keep their plants alive and growing while at home. You can enjoy their “plant check-in” zoom meeting below.

6th Grade In History, 6th Grade is learning about the Geography and Early Development of Ancient Rome. Students learned about the ancient Roman myth of Romulus and Remus. Students created symbols and captions to portray their version of the myth in their Student Notebooks on TeachTCI- History Alive! Check out Keane’s work!

7th Grade In History, 7th grade students continue to learn about Muslim Innovations and Adaptations. Students chose five Muslim adaptations or innovations they have learned about to place along a spectrum. Students explained their placement of the adaptation or innovation on the spectrum and included a symbol to represent their choices. Way to go 7th grade! 8th Grade Last week our 8th graders discussed some concrete ways that can be like Jesus in our world. They really came up with some wonderful ideas including helping the poor, honoring parents, and showing love and care to one self. You can see for yourself the student’s comments in Mrs. French’s Facebook post below. In History, 8th Grade has been learning about Rise of Industry. Students are exploring if the benefits of the rise of industry outweighed the costs. Students identified inventions, inventors, and the impact of those inventions during this time. Check out Elijah’s chart to the right. :) We are so thankful for these awesome inventions and inventors!

Enrichment Classes This week in Art, our older students are mimicking artwork by Peter Max. Peter Max is an artist affiliated with the Psychedelic Art Movement which happened in the 1960's. His art is very bright, swirling colors with super stylized figures. Students took a hand at recreating Max's famous Statue of Liberty prints. They used markers, oil pastels, or crayons. Both Zion Jones and Elijah Santos did an excellent job!

they know his voice. John 10:4

Today I am going to quote some popular phrases from some pretty famous characters and one real person. After I say the phrase, you have to figure out to whom the famous saying belongs. Here we go: “To infinity and beyond.” - Buzz Lightyear

Page 9: SAINTS’ Scoop Newsletter...SAINTS’ Scoop Newsletter A p ri l 2 9 , 2 0 2 0 Dear Queen of All Saints Families, A silver lining in our remote learning during the shelter in place

“Some people are worth melting for.” - Olaf “Just keep swimming.” - Dory “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” - Mary Poppins Was it easy or hard to guess who said each of these things? How could you be certain of who said each phrase? You had to be pretty familiar with the movie and character to match their saying with the person saying it. If you had never seen the movie “Finding Nemo” you may not know that Dory says “Just keep swimming.” But if you have seen Frozen like 100 times, you could guess Olaf really easily. The more you know the movie and character, the better you know their voice. I have one more voice for you to guess. “Love each other as I have loved you.” Who do you think said that? Yes, it is Jesus! Jesus is not a cartoon character; he is the Good Shepherd who takes care of us. Jesus says that His sheep know His voice and follow Him. Let us work to recognize Jesus as easily as we do the other characters in today’s lesson. Dear God, thank You that You help us hear and know Jesus’ voice. We want to follow You today and always. In Jesus’ name we pray...Amen.
