Dear Friends and Valued Customers,Maybe you’ve noticed—things are still a lot different than they were before the National

Emergency was declared in mid-March. Not much has returned to “normal”, and I don’t know that it will ever be the same. The restrictions due to fear of the coronavirus just keep dragging on.

Last month when we produced a Preview Edition of our sale flyer; we didn’t feel comfortable putting all the sale prices and new items into print so far in advance of when the sales were to take effect. Supply and pricing were still too unpredictable. We didn’t know how long it would be that way. Well, things haven’t settled down enough yet for us to go back to “normal” with the printing of our sale flyers... so, we’ve again chosen to do a Preview Edition this time. That means you’ll need to see the PDF of our July sale flyer online when July gets here, or simply shop our website for sale items. The goal is to give you the most timely and accurate information possible, and digitally is the best way to do that right now.

We’re doing our best to update everyone by email with challenges and changes as they happen, so you’re fully informed. We hope you’re receiving those emails and finding them useful. If you’re not receiving our emails, check out our social media posts or the “What’s the Latest?” page on our website.

We’re eager for your feedback on these smaller “Preview” sales flyers. Do they include enough information to help you know why we offer what we do? Have you been able to download the PDF okay? Was it easy for you to find the sale items on our website? Some folks have already told us they prefer this smaller format, but we want to make sure you’re not missing out simply because we haven’t printed all the sale items in this publication. We’d like to know what you think.

Blessings to all,David StelzerFounder and CEO

Where is the July Sales Flyer? This year’s July Sales Flyer will only be available online because there is so much uncertainty about our supply and the availability of promotions at this time. By providing a digital version, we’re able to bring more up-to-date information to you quicker. It will be the same content you are used to, just in a PDF format. Find it at ourazure.com/July2020Sales by July 1, once we have a better idea what our sale items and prices will be.

Digest with Comfort*Devigest ADS (Advanced Digestive Support) promotes comfortable and complete digestion of all foods. An excellent formula for anyone who has trouble with gluten, dairy and/or high fiber, gas-promoting foods.*

Purify the Blood*Neprinol AFD (Advanced Fibrin Defense) purifies the blood of decayed cells, fibrin, fatty proteins and other toxic materials. Neprinol is recommended for everyday aches and pains and complete cardiovascular health.*

Cleanse Excess Yeast*

Syntol AMD (Advanced Microflora Delivery) is an extremely gentle yeast cleanse and daily probiotic.* Syntol is able to cleanse the body without the detoxification symptoms very commonly associated with probiotic and yeast cleansing products.*

Urinary Tract Support*

Did you know that most UTIs are caused by specific bacteria that we consume in our foods every day? Floraphage supports normal urinary tract health by neutralizing these same bacteria, turning them into food for all beneficial microflora (probiotics).*

THE FINE PRINTSales are effective on orders placed within the month indicated on the

Sales Flyer cover, not the date when your order is delivered. We do our best to distribute Sales Flyers to each route prior to the beginning of the sales month, but it is our customers' responsibility to place an order during the month in which they plan to receive the sale prices.

To avoid receiving incorrect sale prices, please indicate on your fax, website order or mailed order the exact sale price intended and the month of that sale, especially when your order deadline comes near the first of the month when the sales change. Please Note: When placing an order just before the sale prices expire, please ensure that your order arrives in sufficient time to be processed before Azure closes on the last business day of the calendar month of the sale. Azure honors sale prices during the dates in which the sale is active.

We make every effort to keep all sale items in stock, but sale prices only apply as quantities last. No rainchecks will be issued for out-of-stock items.

Feature

of plants and fresh air and sunshine turned his health around. (No pesticides or herbicides in that garden, of course.)

All fiction? Not really. The body was created to be self-healing. Give it the sunshine, oxygen, and nutrition it needs (along with the good companionship of others) and the body will thrive. “Oh, but there’s germs!” some will say. Yes, but if you drop a seed in the desert does it mean a jungle will grow and spread? No. Germs need the right environment to thrive, just like seeds. If you provide an environment in your body that germs like (high sugar, low oxygen, insufficient immune system to fight them, inadequate digestion, etc.) they will take up residence and do harm.

GERM THEORY VS. TERRAIN THEORYThere’s the “germ theory” (that every

sickness is caused by a germ and we’re all equally vulnerable to getting sick from it) and there’s the “terrain theory” (that germs only cause sickness in those whose immunity is compromised). Personally, I think the truth is somewhere in between. For example, doctors ridiculed Ignaz Semmelweis back in 1846, when he insisted that they wash their hands between autopsies and delivering babies in order to lower the incidence of puerperal fever (childbed fever). He was right. Germs were being passed from one person to another with deadly consequences. So, in that case, getting rid of the “germs” was the way to save lives.

But, as our society has swung the other direction (germ-phobic, really), we’re finding more allergies of all kinds and less natural immunity. Isolating ourselves from all germs is both impractical and potentially dangerous, because it does not allow our bodies the opportunity to mount a defense and gain immunity.

BACK TO BASICSOur modern world has obscured the basic

health principles that have helped previous generations survive and thrive. These basic

principles were made clear in books like Heidi and The Secret Garden with sunshine and fresh air being the cornerstones. Even during the 1918 flu event, we understand that severely ill flu patients, who were nursed outdoors, recovered better than those treated indoors. The fresh air and sunlight seemed to help significantly. Look at modern-day hospitals—closed up tight with central air. For some things, that sterile environment is very important. For health in everyday living? Not so much.

Health freedom is becoming the hot-button issue these days as the debate heats up over whether health comes from the sharp end of a syringe or not. Healthy debate on important subjects is frequently squashed online and on the social media platforms. You may find more information in printed books and subscription-only publications that aren’t available online.

If you’re interested in gaining the “storybook health” of Heidi, Peter, Clara, Mary, and Colin, I highly recommend reading Nourishing Traditions [BK117], by Sally Fallon Morell, founder of the Weston A. Price Foundation. When you start looking at food and asking, “Is this something Heidi would eat?” you begin to recognize the difference between modern, industrialized, processed, so-called “food” and the truly nourishing whole foods that our bodies were designed to thrive on.

Returning to the high-quality nutrition of previous generations is so important for our health currently and for future generations. Eating a diet high in nutrition is always important, but especially if you’re pregnant or likely to become pregnant. What you eat does affect that new person’s health for the rest of their lives (and as we learn from the new study of epigenetics, their children as well.)

Here at Azure our goal is to provide you with the healthy foods you need to live an abundant life. But getting that sunshine and fresh air is something you’ll need to go and do… we hope you find healing, wherever you find your personal “secret garden”.

OPPOSITE PAGE: Ellie Stelzer plays in Azure’s orchard during the apple harvest.GROWN-UP READING

Some of my favorite storybooks as a child were Heidi, by Johanna Spyri, and The Secret Garden by Frances

Hodgson Burnett. Apparently, they were favorites of a lot of people, since Heidi is said to be one of the best-selling books ever written, and The Secret Garden ranks as one of the best children’s books of the 20th century. So, imagine my surprise when I read about acclaimed early nutritionist, Weston A. Price’s travels to the Loetschental Valley in Switzerland where he found people that seemed to live just like Heidi!

HEIDIAs you probably remember, in the story

of Heidi, she spends time (with her uncle and Peter) in the fresh mountain air, eats bread, cheese, and milk and plays with the goats. This environment was very healing

for her and wheelchair-bound Clara. So too, (in real life!) Price found robust and healthy people living in the Alps who ate whole grain rye bread, cheeses, milk, butter, vegetables, meat once a week, and bone broth. The children would play in the streams of glacier-melt on a cold day barefooted, yet without sickness. (Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, by Weston A. Price)

But, their food was not ordinary. Their bread was likely sourdough (or naturally leavened without modern commercial yeast), and made from grain, rich in minerals. (Most of today’s conventionally grown grains are pumped up with NPK fertilizer to make them produce more, but with less nutrition). Their butters and cheeses were made with milk from cows and goats grazing on the lush green grasses

(also mineral-rich). The butter, cheese, and milks were likely all raw —full of their complete array of enzymes, undenatured proteins, healthy fats, and beneficial bacteria to help the gut remain healthy. The vegetables were likely lacto-fermented for natural preservation (think raw sauerkraut).

THE SECRET GARDENAnd then there’s The Secret Garden.

Mary, a young girl with an unpleasant disposition, comes to stay on an estate on the English moor. She finds the secret garden and also discovers an invalid boy, Colin, whom she tells about the secret garden. At first in a wheelchair, he begins spending time in the secret garden and gains strength to begin walking again... and running! Like the story of Heidi, being outdoors in a healthy environment

milk and it was much better for me. Brought peace to my organs!!! Thank you so Much!!!! Keep doing what you are doing so well.” (You can read the article about A2 milk at ourazure.com/A2milk.)

Now, we offer A2/A2 powdered milk from Alexandre Family Farms, but since we repackage it from the 55 lb. bags, we label the smaller sizes as Azure Market Organics brand.

BULK RAISINS, PINE NUTS, AND VANILLA

Our commodities buyer, Gloria, has been having a lot of fun trying to make orders fast enough to keep up with demand for our Azure Market and Azure Market Organics lines, but she’s also seeing new opportunities as well. We now have a source for organic flame raisins! It’s the organic part that’s so exciting, since we’ve carried conventional flame raisins for years.

Gloria was particularly excited about finding pine nuts because we haven’t stocked those in forever! These little jewels make the best pesto. They are full of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), B-vitamins, Vitamin E, and trace minerals. They’re also naturally gluten free.

Q: What could be better than Azure’s Organic Vanilla and 4-Fold Vanilla Extracts?

A: All that goodness in an amber glass bottle! Yep, we’re now able to offer both 8 oz. and 4 oz. sizes in this superior packaging.

ORGANIC CHICKENSMary’s Chickens are already way-popular. But, due to some

unusual circumstances, we got the opportunity to pick up these chickens from a different location, and the result was a wider variety to offer to you! So, we’re adding split breasts, breast tenders, drumsticks, and whole legs to the line-up.

GLUTEN FREE ALL-PURPOSE FLOURWe already carry the itty-bitty 18 oz. pouches of Petley Grain

All-Purpose Gluten Free Flour, but since most of our customers like to buy in bigger bulk sizes, it just made sense to start carrying

their larger 4.5 lb. size. Now you can really bake up a pile of gluten free goodies!

ORGANIC CHOCOLATE CHIPS AND MORE!

Looking for some delicious organic chocolate chips to go in your cookies? We’re very pleased to now be able to buy directly from the chocolate chip manufacturer in South America, thanks to our CSI sponsors. We’re planning to get chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, cocoa powder, cocoa butter, and other goodies in stock by July under the Azure Market Organics brand name. Most of the chocolate chips will be allergen-free (Yay!), but of course the milk-chocolate chips will contain dairy.

HEIRLOOM BEANSRecently, I’ve read several

books on the need for biodiver-sity in our food supply. If we don’t start preserving the many different varieties of plants that could/should be our food, they could be gone forever. Past experiences such as the Irish Potato Famine should be a wake-up call that mono-crop-

ping (and mono-eating) is not truly sustainable. And herein lies the joys of heirloom foods. I drool over seed catalogs each spring because they describe all sorts of plants that will grow foods you just can’t find in the grocery stores. That’s why I was so excited to see these heirloom dry beans from Small Town Specialties on our new product list. With names like Christmas Limas, Snow Cap Beans, Good Mother Stallard Beans, and Black Chickpeas, how can I resist? Now I can add some variety to my diet and don’t have to grow them myself.

What’s New for July and Why By Susan Booth, Executive Assistant to the CEO

With all the frenzy to ramp up for the high demand we’ve been experiencing, our buyers have been talking with our sup-pliers a lot. “What can you supply right now?” “What are people needing as they cook at home more and are trying to boost their immune systems and get healthy?” The result was a wide variety of good new products we’re eager to share with you. Drum-roll, please!!

VITAMIN C AND ZINCTwo super popular supplements right now, of course! The new

vitamin C from Integrity Health is the higher potency 1000 mg variety. (And have you heard the story of how Integrity Health came to be? I’ll give the short version of the story… One of the supplement brokers we’ve worked with for years had the oppor-tunity to see many, many manufacturing facilities and talk to many formulators. She knew what high quality looked like, from a behind-the-scenes point of view. Her friends kept asking her “what brands do you recommend as the best?” She decided not to disclose that information, but instead contract with only the best suppliers for her own line of supplements. Now we benefit from her “inside track”!)

And when Lidtke heard that we were running short on zinc supplements from other suppliers, they stepped up and let us know they have zinc available. Lidtke is already well known for having ultra-pure products of the highest quality, so this was good news indeed!

CHEESES FROM JERSEY COWS

Please understand that we can’t say these cheeses are A2/A2 cheeses… the cows have not each been genetically tested and cer-tified to have A2/A2 genes. But, jersey cows are among the breeds known to typically have A2/A2

genes and therefore typically produce A2/A2 milk. These cheeses from Spring Hill Jersey Cheese and Petaluma Gold are made from the milk of only Jersey cows. In Petaluma Creamery’s own words, “Our herd of 400 Jersey cows are pasture access, non-gmo, no hormones & 100% organic.” We’ll have two mozzarella’s and a classic white cheddar for you soon!

ESSENTIAL OILSI was amazed at how our sales of essential oils skyrocketed

during this flu-scare event. BioMed Balance jumped at the chance to be able to provide us with an even wider variety of essential oils. And just in time for the summer season, they have a bug-repelling blend, too.

A2/A2 POWDERED MILKSWhen we started carrying A2/A2 fluid milk from Alexandre

Family Farms, we had no idea how fast it would sell. But, we’re so happy that folks have tried it and are appreciating the benefits of A2/A2 milk. Just today, I got an email from Alan (one of our CSI sponsors) saying, “I read your A-1, A-2 message, bought your A-2

10 years

BY SUSAN BOOTH,EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO THE CEO

If, by some chance, you weren’t able to see David Stelzer’s May 19 video on YouTube about the unusual packaging

we’ve been having to use, I highly recom-mend watching it.

He described how our need for paper bags increased significantly over the past several months as the demand for bulk foods skyrocketed. Thankfully, we’ve been successful at getting truckloads of beans, peas, lentils, grain, corn, and animal feed brought in from our growers and suppliers. But… all those items need to be packaged in smaller family-sized bags. We made the commitment to reduce our use of plastic wherever possible, and most of our dry bulk products have been packaged in paper.

But, the folks who make our paper bags have not been able to keep up with demand. We have several suppliers and each of them has had difficulty getting bag orders out the door, mostly due to limited staffing and social distancing requirements. They’re

doing the best they can, but when we have food that needs to get to our customers, we can’t wait another 6 weeks for the bags to be done. So, we had to get innovative.

You may have already experienced some of our unusual packaging. Sometimes we have to use bags that are too big for what’s inside, sometimes we have to send paper bags that are thinner and not as sturdy as what we usually use. And we’ve also had to use... plastic. Ugh.

Yes, some of the 5 lb. sizes are being pack-aged in clear poly-bags, and some of the larger 25 and 50 lb. sizes are being packaged in mesh (woven) plastic bags. Faced with the decision of sending your food in plastic, or not sending the food at all, we opted to use plastic. These are only temporary measures, and we hope that, as the world at-tempts to get back to “normal”, this hiccup in the supply chain will smooth out, and we can provide paper packaging once again.

However, it wasn’t just paper bags that

were affected. Mike Harvey, the Project Manager for our Azure Clean line, let us know that, although he thought he had secured enough pump bottles for our new Squirt n’ Lather Hand Soap, sales were so high we blew through all of them already! And, you guessed it... the bottle supplier didn’t have more available just yet. So, Mike opted to go with a slightly different bottle with a *foaming* pump on it until the orig-inal pump bottles are available again.

These are all good problems to have… certainly better than the other way around! We wouldn’t want to have plenty of bags and bottles with nothing to go into them!

And we’d like to say again, we really sin-cerely appreciate you entrusting us with the responsibility of making food for you and your family available affordably, and with a superior method of delivery. It truly is an honor and we’re glad to do it!

Shop Produce at AzureStandard.comFind all of our currently-available produce at AzureStandard.com. First navigate to the “Food” filter under the word “Shop” on the menu at the top of the website, then choose “Produce.” 1. Click on Shop just under the eagle

logo. A menu of choices will drop down.

2. Click on the word Food at the top of the drop-down menu. All the food categories will appear to the right.

3. Click on the word “Produce.” TIP: Make sure you click the Load More button at the bottom of the item list so you see all the items.

The fresh produce supply, in general, seems to be improving and stabiliz-ing. Although growers are needing

to sell differently (because most restaurants are still not open, etc.), supplies are ade-quate and new summer crops are looking good. There does appear to be a bit of a labor shortage and other difficulties due to the COVID-19 restrictions. But, from what we’ve seen and heard, the farmers are trying to plant enough to cover the needs in these changing times.

Here at the Azure Orchards, it’s shaping up to be a potentially exceptional season. Cherries should be ready for you by late June or (more likely) early July. We’ve had

some cool, wet weather recently that likely means the cherries will be a little later this year than previous years.

Looking farther ahead, we’re seeing one of the nicest fruit sets for nearly everything but peaches. Perhaps we could call this our “Blossom Update”... Apples and plums have the heaviest set that David Stelzer says he’s ever seen. Peaches and pears--not quite so much, but not bad. The phase of “setting fruit” is just the early stages of fruit growth. That’s when we get a glimpse as to how potentially big or small the coming crop might be.

And if you’re looking forward to canning your own pickles at home this year, we’ve

got some fun stuff for you! Not only did we plant lots of pickling cucumbers for you (and we’ll offer them in 20 lb. boxes), we’re also planning to offer grape leaves to help make your home-canned pickles super-crisp. Grape leaves are rich in tannins which help keep the pickles from getting mushy. This “secret” is actually an old method that has been passed down from generation to generation. Not everyone has a vineyard or wild stand of grapes nearby, so we’re offering some from our own vineyard. Both the fresh cucumbers and the grape leaves will be available under our own Azure Husbandry brand name.

“I’ve been buying from you a long time. I don’t buy much, but what I do buy has kept me healthy and alert for all these years. Now I’m 83 and still bowling

and living along. Your products have been a big part of that ‘keeping me going” jean g., coarsegold, california

“Thank you so much for your great customer service and always excellent products. We appreciate you all and your dedication during these difficult times.

God Bless you and stay safe.” steve, sun river, oregon
