Improved and quality agricultural machinery play a pivotal role in sustainable development of agriculture and enhancement of production and productivity.

In the milieu of Barrier-Free-Trade and Globalization, the identification of quality machinery becomes even more essential than ever before, and this is, precisely where, the necessity of testing of machinery by an Independent agency emerges. Historically, it was in the year 1920 that the University of Nebraska, USA, started the Testing of Tractors with a view to ensure the tractors were performing to the manufacturers’ claim. In India, testing of Tractors and other agricultural machinery began in 1960-61.

The Southern Region Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute, Anantapur, began its testing activities in the year 1989-90; however, this Institute came to be authorized for Power Tiller Testing around in the year 2007 only. Upto the March, 2015, this Institute has tested 495 machinery including 72 Power Tillers.

In view of the fact that the test report of any machine contains 30 to 40 pages, the operational guidelines on “SUB-MISSION ON AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION” came to suggest that testing institutions will bring out one page salient features of the machine tested for easy understanding by the users.It is noted with great pleasure that This Institute has earned the distinction of being the first and the only FMTTI, till date, of Mechanization & Technology Division of the Ministry, to provide the salient features of the machines tested at this institute, in its websites. In compliance with the guidelines, the compiled material is brought out in this report contains the salient features of the machines tested (Commercial Test) during 2013-14 and 2014-15 including those of Power Tillers.

The applicant named Kamco Super DI Power Tiller had submitted a test sample, randomly selected by representative of testing authority, in accordance with IS: 4905-1968, for first batch test, in the year

2013. During Two hour Max. Power engine performance test on 03.05.2013, the max. power was observed as 7.89 kW against the declaration of 8.8 kW by the manufacturer. Upon this the firm representative requested on 04.05.2013 to allow to change the engine oil with the conviction that it would improve the performance up to the mark. The same was allowed, Test was again started but still the maximum power was observed as 7.89 kW. Firm representative was again allowed to check injector pressure, tappet clearance, etc, in compliance with his request on 08.05.2013. Engine was again put to the test on 09.05.2013, but still, maximum engine power observed as 7.89 kW. The max. Engine power under Natural ambient condition did not come to conform to the requirements of IS:13539-2008. There upon, the applicant chose to withdraw the sample from Batch test and incomplete report bearing No: PT-40/402 was released in June 2013.

Thereafter applicant again applied for submitting second sample for first batch test on 01.08.2013. Hence this test report.
