NAIDOC celebrations

On Friday 5th July we celebrated NAIDOC week. Our day was filled with cultural activities where students rotated through including art, music and stories. Uncle Gavie once again shared his great knowledge of Aboriginal culture with our students. He also performed a smoking ceremony and invited students to participate in it by walking around as he sang traditional songs and played the Didgeridoo. What a wonderful day.

Dance Festival

Tomorrow, 20 students will participate in the Hunter Dance Festival performing Men in Black for the first time. They will attend a rehearsal in the afternoon and then perform in the evening at Wests Newcastle. Students are reminded that they need to bring with them their plain white shirt, plain black long plants, black shoes and black socks. They will be given a jacket, tie and sunglasses for the performance. Students will need to be collected from the auditorium foyer at 8pm. A huge thank you to Mrs Smailes for taking over Dance Festival in my absence.

MarketPlace Performance

During Education Week, Salt Ash Public School has been invited to showcase Public Education talent at the Ray-mond Terrace MarketPlace on Friday 9th August. Buses will transport the students to and from the performance. There is no cost for this excursion. Dance group will be required to bring their Men In Black costume and the choir will wear full school uniform. A permission note has been sent home today.

Public Speaking Finalists

Congratulations to our SAPS Public Speaking Finalists who will be representing our school this week. Just before the holidays we held our school final where two students from each stage were selected to go on to the next stage of the competition and compete at other local schools. Congratulations to Scarlette and Charlotte (ES1), Lylah and Braxton (Stage 1), Aylira-Jayde and Zali (Stage 2) and Cooper and Aleisha (Stage 3). Good luck! Well done to all of the students who were chosen to represent their class at our SAPS final.

Beanie for Brain Cancer Week

This week is Beanie for Brain Cancer Awareness Week. We are asking all students and staff to support this cause by wearing your beanie on Thursday and bringing in a gold coin donation.

Planned maintenance

Over the holidays we have had some planned maintenance taken place and is nearly at competition. K/1F and 1/2N classrooms have been repainted and new pin boarding added around the walls, the COLA has new gutters and down pipes, the staff toilets are being retiled and the old toilet block is also being freshened up. There are still a few things to be finished off with the temporary fencing to be pulled down after this occurs.

Silent Disco

A big congratulations to all of the students who were eligible and attended the Term 2 Rewards Day, our largest percentage of students yet, meaning so many positive, respectful and safe learners here at Salt Ash Public School. There was so much fun had by all at the Silent Disco. Each student was given a pair of headphones to wear and they could choose between three different music channels which could be alternated between for the entire disco, depending on their music taste. Everyone had an absolute ball and it was a great way to finish such a positive term.
