• When greeting someone it is customary to shake hands. Many people also exchange a kiss on the cheek or a hug. The greeting changes with the time of the day.

•This expression can be used by anyone at anytime.

• Buenos días is used in the morning.

• Buenas tardes is used in the afternoon and early evening.

• Buenas noches is used at night.

• These expressions are all used to say good-bye. (Despedidas=Farewells)

•Adiós•Means Good-bye

•Hasta mañana literally means “until tomorrow”

•Hasta luego•Means: “see you later”

•See you soon!

• Nos vemos• (Used to express that you

and another person expect to see each-other later in the day or in the near future.)

• Introducing ourselves in Spanish.

•If you want to find out someone’s name you can ask:

¿Cómo te llamas?

•To answer that question you say: Me llamo _________

• (My name is ______)

•As a polite gesture, you should say: “Encantado” which is one way to say nice to meet you!

•Boys: You have to use the form: Encantado

•Girls: You say “Encantada”

•You can also say “es un placer” which means “it’s a pleasure”

•Or you can say also “Mucho gusto” which means “Nice to meet you”

• You can respond to “Nice to meet you” also by saying: “El gusto es mío.” which means: The pleasure is all mine.

•If you want to find out a person’s name you don’t know you can ask someone:

¿Cómo se llama?“What is his or her name?”
