The Shuttle Run Test

SAMFS PAT 1
• a progressive shuttle run test designed to measure aerobic and cardiovascular fitness.
The Shuttle Run Test
• gives an estimate of maximum oxygen intake which indicates how effectively the body is utilizing oxygen

Task
✔ The candidate runs run along a 20-meter running track in time with a recorded series of beeps ✔starts at a slow pace with a required running speed initially quite slow ✔ arrival at the end should coincide with the single beep

Task
✔ A single beep signals the end of a shuttle. ✔ A triple beep signals the end of a level which means speed should be increased. ✔ The aim is to follow the increasing pace until the level of 9.6 is achieved.

Do’s and Don’t’s
✔ one foot must be placed on or over the blue 20-meter line before returning to the other end ✔ never commence the next shuttle until the beep has sounded✔otherwise a yellow card will be issued ✔ 4 yellow cards = FAIL

Hose Hold Test ✔ For the first minute, you will be required to hold the hose at a pressure of 500 kilopascals and direct the water stream between 2 bollards.
