It is with great pleasure that I write this article for the second anniversary of
Sampada. I came to know of the Vision UVCE team in Aug 2009 when
they wrote on the Linkedin discussion about the Mega Reunion. Satish,
Lomesh and Sriharsha informed us of the discussion about the UVCE ac-
tivities that they had already completed and requested support for the ini-
tiatives they had planned as well as wholeheartedly supporting the Mega
Reunion.
I was impressed with their enthusiasm and dedication which defi-
nitely motivated me to progress the Mega Reunion and finally when I met
them in May 2010 I realised modern India is not all about making money
and consumption and has a future.
Sampada was one of the Vision UVCE earlier initiatives and I was happy to connect the team
with my connections and ideas. As part of this Veena Prasad came in as editor for a few issues and did a
profile of Sir MV and interviewed Pavitra Ratnakar, Manoo Murthy and B V Jagadeesh, providing the
magazine with an interesting outlook and wider reach.
It amazes me that the team never missed a single issue in the last two years even though they
took on the entire ‘behind the scene work’ of the successful Mega Reunion which attracted over 1500
people.
Sampada have come up with many interesting articles and introduced exciting features which has
enlightened us, taken us down a nostalgia trip as well as keeping us in touch with the college happen-
ings.
The inspirational group, the majority of them from the 2009 batch, are setting an example for
other alumni groups in the country and are working on numerous initiatives for the betterment of the
college with limited resources. I would like to invite everyone to work with them to achieve what we all
wished for the college.
I wish you all a happy new year and look forward to seeing many of the Vision UVCE initiatives
implemented in 2012.

SAMPADA PROGRESSION—A Journey etched over 2 years

We certainly don’t know what would be called a milestone but completing 24 Sampada editions has
been one of the biggest milestones that the Team VisionUVCE has done till date and also most satisfy-
ing. It has been a steady journey with support from alumni and students. With every edition all that we
hope is that you recollect those nostalgic memories and also keeps one updated with the occurrences
within the college. We certainly have been trying to live up to the caption we have set for this magazine,
“Your Window to UVCE”. Whether do we live up to that, the judgment is left to our readers like you.
Our work on Sampada has been majorly supported by all our alumni by providing the much
needed appreciation, encouragement, articles, profiles, interviews, all those special photos and mainly
with readership. And we have been ably supported by the students within the campus who bubble with
so much energy that the tasks we assign gets done with perfection and in time. We are thankful to eve-
ryone who has supported us right through these two years and we hope that we get the same support as
we stride ahead and correct us if we miss few things but never stop reading Sampada. To make this edi-
tion special, we take you on a journey that introduces one and all to few of the great ambassadors of
UVCE who have made it big and that section in the edition is called “Parichaya”. Also the UVCE and
lot of things that happened over the last one month is part of this edition.
"FIESTA-2011, an intra collegiate festival organized by 3rd year 2009-2013 batch, was one of
the most successful events organized by UVCE in the recent years. This took place on Monday, 5th De-
cember 2011.
The day began with traditional n colorful events like Rangoli and Flower Arrangement. The
judges were enthralled by the abundance show of talent and creativity by participants. As the day pro-
gressed, the audience witnessed various fun filled activities like Hog-o-thon, Photog- raphy,
Face Painting, Debate, Gaming, Pot breaking and Adrenaline.
Fiesta brought with it self a number of exuberant extrava-
ganzas such as Karaoke, Anthakshari, Dumb-charades,
Treasure hunt and Rock Show which kept the crowd at the
edge of their seats. To add to the excitement there were a
number of food stalls offering mouth watering delicacies like
gola, golgappas and samosa.
The much awaited events were conducted after valedic-
tory ceremony in which the chief guests Prof Lakshman Reddy
and Prof Ruddraiah imparted wisdom to the students with their
enlightened speeches. Our Principal Dr.Venugopal K.R. ad-
dressed the gathering by sharing with the students his love for the col-
lege and appreciation for the efforts put in by the staff and students.
The air was electrified when the dance participants took the stage.
Their catchy tunes and groovy moves caught the au-
diences attention and took them by storm. The mad
add teams had the audience laughing their heads off.
Fiesta 2011 culminated with the most awaited event
fashion show, The models set the stage on fire with
their fiery walk and fashionable clothes. Fiesta 2011
left everyone with a smile on their face as all their
efforts and hard work had paid off in making it a suc-
cessful event."

First and for most i would like to thank SAMPADA team for continuous non stop SAMAPADA
Editions. Congratulations for 2years completion.
Sampada keeps me updated with all the current programs( fests, cam-
pus interviews etc) happening in UVCE.
Every time i read Sampada it reminds me of all my college days.

I understand that Sampada will be completing two years since its birth. Two years has just
gone by and it is already one year after we had a UVCE global meet last.
My thoughts go with you all. I am one of those closely following and reading the Sampada
month after month from the first publication. I have also been telling fellow classmates about the
magazine.
Even though I have not made much contribution to it, when ever I used to read them, I
would go back in my mind to my college days. I am sure many would have had the same experience.
I always like to go back in my mind again and again to my college days once
a month or whenever I read the Sampada.
It did update what’s happening around the college and what
the students community is doing today. Quite interesting to read the
articles written by alumini’s and others.
The pictures really used to take me back in my time and recollect
what it used to be, way back 40 years.
I always wanted Sampada to be a success and yes it is. My
congrats to all those who have mate it to come up to this stage
and further doing it. My best wishes to them all and all the contribu-
tors towards its success.
As I had earlier suggested, it will be nice to have 40-50% of it in Kannada, and balance in
English. One suggestion would be to publish on the first page of every Sampada some of the great
thoughts of great people in different walks of life, which could be of good reading .
I wish all the Team the very best and pray God to give them the confidence and patience to take it to
much higher levels of publication.

These VisionUVCE champs will be known to the whole alumni network of close to 3000 people
and the faculty within UVCE. We hope that this goes onto become a proud achievement for students
which inturn inspires others to follow the suit.

have been doing a remarkable job by keeping all of us updated about the hap-
penings in UVCE from the past two years. The Parichaya Section in
the monthly editions of Sampada is very inspiring. It is really exhila-
rating to read about the alumni of our alma mater who have achieved
great heights in various fields. .
I appreciate your initiative in other activities like Student Schol-
arships and Library Day. I wish you all the good luck and hope to read
many more issues of Sampada in future. Keep up the good work going.

There are a lot of newspapers, newsletters and magazines available today, keeping everyone
updated on the latest news and developments the world over, but as an engineering student, not much
of what I read ever really affected me. How do I go about tapping my skills? How can I take advantage
of an opportunity with my negligible experience? Is there a person with whom I share
something in common, who went on to achieve great things?
My search ended when I found SAMPADA, the online
newsletter from Vision UVCE, for the students and alumni of
our college. Its publishing team put in every effort to bring out
every edition without fail, contacting alumni and students to give
inputs so that the readers get a general picture of life of both dur-
ing and after college.
From information pertaining to the fifties batch, to place- ment details
of the present, from the story of how Milagro or Inspiron began, to the most recent one, or per-
haps you wish to read a little bit about an alumnus and their thoughts in Parichaya, everything is cov-
ered in each successive edition offering a different reading experience each time, still remaining true to
its purpose.
A bridge between many generations, open to anyone with interest, not just to read but also for
their contributions. I only wish that more could be done to increase its readership among the students,
when most spend a lot of time online.

“SAMPADA”. As the name suggests, the monthly magazine by VISION UVCE is truly rich
with information about college, alumni, trivia and lots more. Every edition of SAMPADA is special in
its own way .
Now in its 24th edition, coming into the 2nd year, SAMPADA has come a long
way. Each edition of SAMPADA gives us insight on what is happening
in college currently. Also what was happening in college in the olden
days of our alumni. The editorial by a distinguished alumni of UVCE is
always enlightening and enriching the younger generations of engineers
coming out of UVCE every year. Also we are sure what we students do
in college now reach out the vast pool of alumni in the corporate world
and help us in every possible ways. SAMPADA is one of the ways of ad-
vertising every big or small activities that we students do for our as well as
the fellow college mates benefit.
SAMPADA is not only about the activities of student in college or memories of
alumni. In many editions of SAMPADA, career advices and insights, from the alumni who have
worked in the industry and are knowledgeable, are provided to help the students pursue their interests.
These tips are highly useful and enlightening. Finally SAMPADA provided interesting trivia about var-
ious things. Those are fun to read and highly informative. Kudos to TEAM VISION UVCE on bringing
out all the editions of SAMPADA in such an informative and colorful way to UVCEians.

Dr. Surya Raghu, is an eminent alumni of UVCE (1978 Batch of Me-
chanical Engg) who has done highly commendable service in the field
of technology particularly in the area of fluidics. He has been an inven-
tor and a science entrepreneur. He is the founder and the president of a
firm called, Advanced Fluidics based out of Columbia, Maryland in-
volved in the development of advanced concepts in meso- and micro-
fluidics for innovative products related to aerospace, automotive, bio-
tech, consumer and energy industries. He is an inspirational figure to
everyone who wants to excel in the field of technology and being an entrepreneur as well.
Dr. Surya Raghu received the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Yale University in
1987. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Yale in 1987-88, a Humboldt Scholar at the Technical Univer-
sity of Berlin, Germany, (1989-90), Assistant Professor at SUNY Stony Brook (1990-95), Senior Re-
search Engineer/Principal Research Scientist and Team Leader at Bowles Fluidics Corporation (1996-
2000) and is the founder-president of Advanced Fluidics LLC since 2001.
Dr. Raghu is currently involved in the development of products related to telemedicine, physiological
monitoring, DNA testing, corrosion sensors, aerodynamic flow control and spray technology. He has
inventions related to aerospace, automotive, consumer and biotechnology applications and has exten-
sive experience in developing products starting from the basic inventions. His research interests in-
clude development of meso-, micro- and nanofluidic devices for aerospace, chemical and biotechnolo-
gy applications and has active research collaborations with many institutions in the US and Europe. He
holds expertise in fluid handling systems and his organization designs and builds prototypes for the
same in the region of bio-instrumentation, droplet dispensing, microfuel cells, fluid metering, mixing,
electronic cooling and thermal management. The firm is handling a variety of projects for high end and
prestigious firms such as NASA, Boeing, US Army Research Labs and the list goes on.
Dr. Raghu is a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt award from Germany and has been a visiting
scientist at NIST and AFOSR Laboratories. He has been awarded 10 US patents and has over 10 pend-
ing patents/invention disclosures as an inventor or co-inventor. He is a member of ASME and an Asso-
ciate Fellow of AIAA.
He is an UVCEian who has offered his technical competency in coming out with products that are

23 editions already!! I can’t believe it!! A wave of nostalgia sweeps over as I recall the first ar-
ticle I wrote for Sampada more than a year ago. I remember blabbering about how wonderful the col-
lege is; the lush green campus, the wonderful seniors, my awesome classmates, the punctual teachers,
the well-equipped labs and the spotless restrooms (reader discretion strongly advised) and on and on.
And it feels so good to see that every UVCEian has experienced the same.
The articles by juniors remind me of all my crazy days here. It’s a reminder of how lucky I am
to be a part of this big family. The fun events organized have brought out the kid inside each and every
student on campus and the passion to give back to our Alma Mater has been kindled in everyone thanks
to the con- stant motivation of the Vision UVCE Team. Be it rearranging library books
or celebrating children’s day in college, they have truly succeeded in bring-
ing together all students irrespective of year and branch, work together in
giving back to this truly great institution. Bringing out the monthly e-
magazine Sampada has been one of the greatest achievements of Vision
UVCE. Besides giving the alumni a good look into all the activities in
college, Sampada has also given the UVCEians a chance to get to know
the widespread alumni of this age old institute through ‘Parichaya’.
In my three and a half years of stay in UVCE, never have I seen
the college more vibrant and active. There is always something to look
forward to. And one would have to be blind to not notice the constant
support and guidance of the alumni behind all of this. Sampada has not
just reported all the happenings in UVCE in the last two years but more
importantly it has provided a stage for the students to speak their mind and bring out
their views and suggestions. I hope to see a lot more in the editions to come. It’s not only a window to
UVCE, but also a window for the UVCEians to the world outside – one edition at a time!

We had a debate on whether we should include this piece in this edition of Sampada and further
to call the list of things our team has done over the last 30 months as achievements since being pompous
is one thing we have always tried to avoid. But all of us came to a unanimous decision that we will need
to have this as part of this edition as the needs, aspirations and necessities of our institution cannot be
anticipated and realized by our team but will be possible only if the large section of alumni are inspired
and motivated enough to lend their helping hands. So this write-up is supposed to be an example for the
initiatives any UVCE loving alumni wishes to take up for the benefit of the campus. But we also want to
let all know that, we would be glad to channelize any initiative an UVCEian wants to take up and we
will provide all the required support for the success of the same.
The team VisionUVCE as a whole culminated as an after-effect of the organization of a small
time campus event called, “Thank You UVCE Day”. It was through this event that the UVCE map that
you see at the entrance of our campus came in.
We coordinated with the placement office to get ready the placement interview panel rooms op-
posite the co-operative society. We were active volunteers of MegaReunion 2011 event and involved
ourselves in majority of the aspects that made the event such a successful one.
We started SAMPADA that you have been reading and supporting us right through to this day.!
It has been a satisfying 24 editions of UVCE and you..! One more ambitious initiative that we started off
with was the SAMVAADA, to impart expert knowledge on various fields that included higher educa-
tion, placements, personality development, Central Government exams, Team building exercises and so
on. We would invite a person who was an expert in those fields to give a talk and later open up to ques-
tions and it has been a very successful initiative.
Through an initiative called, “Insight” we invited many young alumni to share the description of
the job that they are doing at their workplaces so that students in campus could get a hang of the various
verticals under which most organization work so that the students can evaluate their interest and pursue
them.
We gathered huge support from the students to do the re-organizing the UVCE library under,
“Library Day” initiative through which the books have been categorized and arranged according to the
categories and branches. Students took the responsibility and they deserve huge applause and laurels for
the job that they accomplished.
One of the major stepping stones from us was the Scholarship initiative through which we con-
ducted registrations and interviews to identify the students who were needy and we have awarded them
the scholarships, totally for 9 students. The scholarship initiative was funded by 2008 and 2009 alumni
of UVCE. And we haven’t stopped at that but we have tried to involve as many alumni as possible so
that more students get the required support and soon there will be announcements regarding the same.
We have started an initiative called, “Parichaya” through which we try to introduce to all the
UVCE fraternity around the world, the UVCEians who have made it big in their own field and are pride
of our institution. We have asked for profiles from each of you and slowly, but surely, you will see
many successful alumni on our sampada and the website.
Apart from all these we have been supporting various clubs in college, supporting fests by or-
ganizing events like IT-Ops in Impetus 2010 or providing monetary support. We even drove an event
called, “BachFun” that was a big success and was modeled around the Thank You UVCE Day event.
There was a huge crowd presence and they all enjoyed the event to the hilt.
It has been a wonderful journey till now and we see that the going will be smoother and we will
have achievements up our sleeves. But this would all happen in a grand fashion and each of us can real-
ize the dream of making UVCE one of the best institution across our nation, only if we all come togeth-
er to make that happen. So we urge all UVCEians now and participate in many of the initiatives that we
take up or we will be glad to help out if you have an idea of your own.
And we would like to congratulate everyone who has helped us in making sure these initiatives were
met with success.

Dear Brother Alumni's, I was sitting seeing an old meenakumari movie in Wichita USA when it was
snowing on a sunday. When I opened my e-mail and when I saw your newly born magazine it gave
me the same feeling when my grand son was born few days back here.
What ever you say about "UVCE" is not enough as It is a really a PASSION for me to talk or hear
about"UVCE". I was fortunate that most my family members were alumni's from 1924 onwards. I
was totally rejuvenated and started thinking Backwards all my college days and I cannot come out
the memories of my college days as it is ever lasting.

Dear Alumni's, I just got up around 11 am on sunday
(7-3-2010) in Houston USA with a low feeling as I
have to leave my grand son who is just 2 Months old
and my daughter and my son-in-law were also were
low as we are packing our old stuff to go back to Ban-
galore after completing our assignment of helping
them in delivery of their first child. When I opened
my e-mail I saw an e-mail about Sampada-3 the third
child of my passion UVCE and I could not see the
attachment. I felt very depressed and immediately
sent a reply e-mail about the missing attachment.
When I scrolled over to my next e-mail I saw an e-
mail with an attachment of Sampada-3 which was just
like seeing very good looking girls who were going
though our UVCE front gate to central college in 1967
and majority of time I use to bunk the class between
9.30 am to 10.30 am as we use to feel proud to sit in
side the uvce campus. I had a similar experince when
