Not one, not two, it is the seventh anniversary of Sampada, a newsletter that begun with a vision to bridge the gap between UVCEians of past and present. Catering to thousands of readers today Sampada has metamorphosed into what it stands today as a platform for monthly updates about UVCE and as forum to present and exchange views for the betterment of UVCE. In my first week of joining UVCE, I was still in the exploration of UVCE and what it had to offer, whilst this was the scene I was awestruck to find out that there was a UVCE monthly newsletter named Sampada when my Senior Chakma told me about it for the first time. It got me excited and knew no boundaries when he said they could publish a story I had written. Later, it was one day
that my Senior Swaroop and Satish asked me if I could join the Sampada Editorial Team with them and I was on cloud nine. Penning my thoughts down and putting forth my views, even though not in the most poetic words was something I was passionate about and finally I got to do that. I still remember, nervous as a cat on hot brick I wrote my first editorial and soon after it was published I got feedback mails from Senior Alumni appreciating my efforts and persuading me to continue the efforts. That was my point of ecstasy. Ever since this, it’s been 3 years and counting that I have been part of this wonderful editorial team of Sampada and I must say every edition making is a learning point for me. As a team we have had our share of ups and downs, some editions passed with flying colors and marked as favorites, some just reached the expectations, meeting great people as part of the job, joy of new members onboard, schedule adjustments, there were times when it was a two man team working to some times when it was more than a dozen being involved. What will always be bookmarked in my life as treasured experiences of being part of Sampada is the interactions with alumni and students while researching for articles, brainstorming sessions to bring the best draft out, the feedbacks of readers and their recognition which instils a sense of zeal that kept us moving from the past 85 editions and will keep the flame burning for many more to come. Since 100 years, UVCE stands as a great institution that has been and will be the home to many gifted and righteous people who have made noteworthy achievements, with this being the bright side the bleak side remains to be the lack of communication between
administration, alumni and students in all matters with no means as social media or even for that matter in-person visits. With this being a case, it is a proud moment for me to say as member of the editorial team and as a loyal UVCEian that SAMPADA has been the most valuable and beneficial platform breaking barriers and allowing for students and alumni to voice their opinions, share memories and catch up on updates of UVCE especially incase you are an alumni and dear to UVCE but yet there was no single platform to serve you updates about what happens in UVCE. The joy of reading through memories shared as you relive the experiences that you had when in those moments and the satisfaction that you are doing your part to alma mater in whatever way possible is the feeling you end with being a vivid Sampada Reader! YES! 7 YEARS it has been and this is just the beginning as many more await!

Congratulations Sampada Team Since the time we organised the Mega Reunion in January 2011 at Palace Grounds in Bangalore attended by over 1500 alumni, Sampada, the UVCE alumni magazine has been the source which has bound the alumni, students and everyone interested about UVCE. Sampada started in January 2010 by Satish, Harsha, Saad, Satya, Lomesh and other VisionUVCE members who were volunteers for Mega Reunion has informed and educated us about the college and alumni and contributed a lot to publicising the Mega Reunion event in the first year. The monthly magazine published online and delivered as an email to subscribers has not missed a single month and owes a lot to the dedication of Satish. Sampada entering into its 8th year has created and curated a wealth of content on UVCE which is celebrating its centenary this year. Going forward posting content of Sampada magazine on Vision UVCE portal will
reach a larger audience. The college is also of importance to heritage and local history enthusiasts. We are looking forward to Best of Sampada Magazine and the forthcoming exhibition to celebrate the centenary of the college. The alumni team who started Sampada have also evolved and started Vision UVCE Trust for the benefit of college which gave 60 scholarships to students last year amongst many initiatives. Let us hope Centenary celebrations will create similar initiatives for the benefit of the college as the Mega Reunion did.

With 7 years of journey behind us, I wanted to take this opportunity to look at it in a different - critic perspective. We have always heard praises, appreciation of the efforts for bringing out SAMPADA every month without a miss. You will read about it inside this edition too. But sometimes, we think, is it everyone's opinion or just the few people whom we know or whom we interact with. Our “on-the-paper” subscriber base is in 1000s, but the feedback or reviews are in single digits every edition. This makes us think !! For articles or write-ups, we literally run behind people. Sometimes, we beg them to send the content which will help us in editing it and later publishing it. People who have kept track from initial days, would have definitely observed the delay with which we send SAMPADA off-late. We all have the reason of being “busy” and hence console ourselves about the delay, but sometimes we do genuinely feel sad about not able to keep up with schedule. In some editions, if you have observed, we have repeated some old content or filled up the space with some generic content or image, which gives the opinion that handling of the publication is done in a causal manner. That is never our intention. But “situations” do
make us do such “Out Of the Box” actions. We have tried to bring various colors by selecting various themes, like, Higher Edu-cation, Womens Special, Entrepreneurship, Sports Edition, Humour Special, Fests Theme, Kannada edition but still feel that something more could have been done. The best of all, is the First edition of SAMPADA - still looks so amateurish now. But we are glad that we took that first step and have been able to sustain it through the last 7 years and answered ques-tions like “How will you manage it?”, “Will you get so much content every month?”, “Starting something is easy, but sustaining it is the challenge”. We hope to keep reminding
ourselves these questions in order to step ahead. Thanking all the contributors (directly or indirectly) in this journey of SAMPADA, I am signing off...

Books stacking in library was a great kick start for centenary celebrations. It indeed was a great opportunity for all of us to know the resource that library held in it all these days. An event like this which didn’t demand any pooling of money and solely was depending student’s involvement was a big booster for the 100th year celebration. A soulful bunch of enthusiasts from all semesters and branches were constantly keeping up their thrust for work. It was such a joy for all of us to work together and to measure our efforts with the scale of dust on our hands at the end of the day. This event from Go Green Club was one of its mark as it not only included students but also few alumni who came down to college and invested their time in the event. Whatever done so far is just a part of the event and it to be successful over a long term it’ll need the constant support and very little efforts of everyone in the college. Involvement and a sense of concern is all it takes to maintain this over a long run. The
way the books are sorted by themselves bring a sense of consciousness not to disturb their order. A plan for campaigning is also made as soon as the semester starts to make everyone in the college aware about the event happened. Taking these measures from the Green Club, we hope to continue the work and also pass these to upcoming UVCEians. With all the memories of working together, we are awaiting to see the response of our other friends and seniors/juniors. We will be requesting them to help us in keeping it in a good shape going forward too, as it is beneficial to us.

LIBRARY BOOK ARRANGEMENT
We, from, VisionUVCE Team, are very glad about the students initiative and feel that is the “BEST CONTRIBUTION” towards Centenary Celebrations of the college. A col-lege library generally defines the academic environment of the college campus. Irrespec-tive of the fact that how many people borrow the books, it is always important that we keep the library in a structured manner. This kind of initiatives do not need any financial
backup nor other support and can be executed only by their willingness and dedication. We had visited the library when the work was in progress and contributed some of our efforts as well and were very happy to see more than 25-30 students spending their vaca-tion time doing this volunteer work. It is such things which prove again and again that UVCE is a “Student-driven” col-lege and we congratulate the students on the effort. We, will be announcing the names of the volunteers in the next edition of Sampada, once the complete task is done along with more photos. Kudos to the volunteers !!

From the past few years, we all know this ‘VisionUVCE’ team and their initiatives for our college UVCE. ‘Sampada’ being one of their efforts has been in circulation for the last 7 years and has completed 84 editions now. I must admit that this has been an interesting read for both college students and the alumni of UVCE. At the same time ‘Sampada’ has provided platform for all UVCEians to share their part of association with our college that have made their journey meaningful & memorable. Overall we can say that ‘Sampada’ is in-line with the objectives/vision of team ‘VisionUVCE’. 2017, being the centenary year for UVCE (and the 8th year for ‘Sampada’ J) I would like to thank and congratulate the entire VisionUVCE team for keeping up the energy levels for running this for last 7 years. It needs a lot of dedication for this self-less effort and not an easy thing manage. This reminds me of a line which I read recently – “Uncommon achievement requires an uncommon level of personal motivation and a massive amount of gut & faith in yourself.” We would definitely wish to see more ‘Sampada’

I like to congratulate sampada that it has completed its 7 year and going ahead very successfully and also completed 84 editions and I wish to complete 1000 of editions and since I am in first year, I liked this sampada because it is good idea to share good things about our college. So I wish sampada also completes its 100 year as our college UVCE.

Sampada, started by VisionUvce, is the result of an attempt to docu-ment the present activities in college, memories of the past and future plans related to UVCE. Now, they have completed seven years which means 84 Sampada editions. This is a big achievement in itself. It was through Sampada that I learnt about the illustrious alumni of UVCE and read about the college during its early years. I also enjoyed reading the poems and other creative articles. I especially liked the article "They all invariably came to the Quadrangle" which was published in Samapda editions 38 to 41. Every year the college goes through the same cycle of events, fests and exams. But, it is a different batch of students that organise the events and share their experiences and opinions. They bring with them their own unique perspectives. This is what distinguishes each Sampada edition. I hope Sampada continues to grow and never loses its momentum.

Gokart design challenge 2016 conducted by ISNEE-INDIAN SOCIETY OF NEW ERA ENGINEER is a national level competition where engineering students from various college of India take Part to design and fabricate gokart according to set of rules by organisers. We, a team of 20 students with the team name Empower UVCE participated in the competition representing UVCE in this prestigious event. Our journey of GKDC-2016 started on April, with team registration. Team was skilfully divided into various groups like engine team, chassis team, steering team, brake team and management team concentrating on specific part of tasks assigned to them. All these teams worked in harmony and after a lot of research and market survey we provided the best Gokart design. Before fabrication could begin we had to pass PFR (Pre Final Round), this round took place at Greater Noida on August 6th-7th 2016, in which out of 182 registered teams across India only 95 teams cleared it and we
from Empower UVCE were a part of the qualified teams. It was after this point where we started facing problems, one among those many hurdles was sponsorships. Initially team couldn’t raise any money from sponsors and college was very less bothered about the same. To our help came, Vision UVCE extending their helping hand by sponsoring us a total sum of INR 25,000. Our responsibilities increased and deadlines neared. With the initial amount we built Chassis of our kart, but chassis can’t be the whole car, right? We needed more sponsors, which in case was unavailable, teammates cheered us and invested cash from their pockets. Before final round we had to pass technical inspection, an online inspection wherein tested videos of our cart needed to be aired and presentation of our completed kart had to be displayed. It wouldn’t be that tough if it wasn’t for semester exams. Exams and Inspection dates overlapped, a frozen thought of quitting the competition passed in our minds. Again it’s our teammates who urged to achieve made us to overcome this difficulty and cleared this round. Final round was held at Coimbatore, a 4day event at Kari Motor Speedway. Onsite technical inspection was cleared in a go, many other tests were held for 3 days long. But our Kart couldn’t clear a specific task. We knew what was the factor that held our kart back but the unavailability of some tools made the moment worse and we had to step back from the competition. Facing all such odds we eagerly waited for our results “Team Empower UVCE” stood 28th among 95 qualified teams across India. It was a classic example of skilful engineering. Although we missed many huge events after we had stepped back this
ranking showed our excellency in the prior held events. It was our pride to represent UVCE at such huge platform.

About the financial part, we had spent 2Lakhs to finish this entire project, this was compensated by costing a huge amount of 8,500/- on every teammate and 25,000/- sponsorship from Vision UVCE. It’s a huge disappointment for the team watching the college being neutral in helping us in such events. On the finals site we saw faculties of all college assisting their students on the site and helping them financially and morally. We could fill those top positions if at all college stands along with us in such event. We thank Vision UVCE who soulfully supported our initiative and we humbly plead college to assist its students in such activities, we do such events to get fame for our college. Without them involving in this would never fulfil it’s deed. We also take this platform to wish another team, who are enduring in a bigger task BAJA, with all financial difficulties who would be representing our college again.

I have been browsing through SAMPADA issue no.1 onwards . Should admire the way the magazine has evolved & all credit goes to Team Sampada for the effort in bringing out each issue and taking us down the memory lane and making us remember our college days. Some old issues are not available on line. It would be good to make them avail-able as well which will help in browsing when needed.

SAMPADA BOOMERANG
SAMPADA is a very good & informative magazine. I enjoy reading every edition. For the centenary celebration, it would be a good idea to have a page of bio-data of all UVCE graduates, on the web site, showing their professional accomplishments since leaving college. This would be an interesting collection of information. Also, another suggestion would be to do something concrete & useful for the Mechan-ical Engineering Department. During my last visit to the Department, it was disheartening to see the dilapidated condition of the Machine shop, where machines were covered with plastic sheets, because there was no roof to stop rain water.
Because of my training in these machine shop facilities, I was able to learn a lot of skills that were useful in starting my own company (from scratch), in USA 38 years ago. Last year I wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor, offering to donate Rs.50 Lakhs to fix this run down condition of the machine shop. I have not received any reply from the Vice chancellor. If the current students & other Alumni are interested in doing something con-structive for our beloved UVCE, for the centenary celebrations, let's pool our resources & efforts to improve the condition of the institution to which we need to be grateful.

VisionUVCE Team congratulates Team EmPowerUVCE for their hard work and efforts. We are sad that we were not able to help them more, in terms of financial support, due to our restrictions. We do understand that the burden of the cost is too much for the students of our college who are interested to participate in such events and want to make UVCE proud. We request the college to consider their request and support in all ways pos-sible. IF the college authorities approach companies/ alumni, it would be more official and authentic and the students may get more support which they definitely deserve.

SAMPADA BOOMERANG
Not often do we see something like Sampada happening. A small team working consistently for 7+ years just to make sure that they stand as a bridge between the students and alumni. Reading Sampada definitely takes me back to my college and still makes me feel like a student once in a month. I am sure many others would share that feeling with me. The time spent by the team to collect all the articles and bring them together despite their busy schedules is to be appreciated. Congratulations on the 7th Anniversary.

Writing is one such art which fascinates me the most. It is indeed pleasing to pen down one’s thoughts on a piece of paper. I had never been a part of any editorial team before until one of my senior approached me and asked me if I would like to be a part of the editorial team of Sampada. I actually wasn’t sure of what my role would be in the team yet I agreed since it would be something new for me. It has been almost two years now as a member of Team Sampada and I don’t regret it. I have gained much more even in the little bit that I contributed towards the magazine. My writing skills have been improved a lot and I’m glad that because of the opportunity that I got, I wrote a few articles here and there and in the end it all filled me with encouragement and confidence. Moreover, I have improved my communication skills when
it comes to addressing a crowd or even if it is just interviewing a single person. I am indeed grateful to Team Sampada for giving me this Opportunity and I will be very glad if we have many more budding writers who are willing to be a part of the team.

7 years ago, a small 'spark' about a monthly magazine was ignited by enthusiasts at "Vision UVCE", now that spark has evolved into "Bonfire" spreading UVCE's fame with its alma mater and all its recipients. If at all UVCE was a chocolate shop, then 'Sampada' would be their best selling toffee! Toffee although little in size that amusing taste leaves us mesmerised. Similarly Sampada, that brings us information about present, past and future of UVCE. I've been following Sampada from my initial days at UVCE, its uniqueness is that it involves "New topics" being dealt in every
edition. "Campus says" involving opinion of UVCEians, "Message from alumni", reports and updates of volunteering organization , many new innovative articles, "News feed" about everything happening at UVCE, "Rare photographs". All these elements provide Sampada a unique outlook. 85 successive editions have been aired so far, I take this opportunity as an “UVCEian" to congratulate, "Vision UVCE" and “Team Sampada” for their tremendous dedication towards "Sampada and UVCE". Wishing all your future endeavours to be a huge success.

"So what is Sampada ?" I asked her, having just been offered an opportunity to work for a college monthly newsletter. "It's the bridge between alumni and the college" someone had told me , "you'll learn a thing or two about UVCE " she said. Little did I know was I signing up to be apart of something much more than the proverbial ' just another magazine' . Now that I look back , I feel nothing but pride having briefly been a part of Sampada' s legacy. Interviews with staff , messages from the alumni , student opinions , event coverage and a whole lot more packed into ten odd pages offered a little bit of everything to just about everyone. It was quite an exhilarating experience , transitioning from a passive reader to an active contributor! In the two years I spent with this amazing team amidst all the last minute spell checks ,frustrating text wraps and fast approaching deadlines ,we grew somewhere
between documenting moments and creating them. It baffles me witnessing the zeal with which Sampada continues to operate even after seven years of it's inception. 85 editions later , the newsletter still maintains the same impeccable quality it did during it's formative years owing undoubtedly to it's hard-working and dedicated team! As an ardent reader, heartfelt congratulations to 'VisionUVCE ' and 'Sampada' for the well deserved success and as a former editorial member, a million thanks to all the readers for all their adulation and support.

Being part of Sampada has always connected us to college in a very literal way. The
muses of the College, the activities and all the buzz captured over the years bring a good nostalgic vibe into the college and enriches us with more memories. To be able to contribute to Sampada has been a delight and our continuous efforts to make a monthly newsletter for the people of
UVCE has always been well accepted. Through Sampada, we have found a unique way of bringing everyone close by penning every UVCEian’s thoughts, smiles and happiness. At times we come across few moments and special experiences, which might be regarding the fun we had at fest times in our college ,to the knowledge gaining interactions we had with some seasoned scholars during sessions. We would really love to share them with all our near and dear ones. The apt solution for this is a college magazine, "SAMPADA" - which gives the complete opportunity to us so that we can
be loud with our opinions. It also lists out the various initiatives taken by VISIONUVCE. I prefer it and personally find it extremely helpful.
