Quotasarevolumelimitsonthelevelofimportsallowedoralimittothevalueofimportspermittedintoacountryinagiventimeperiod.Forexample,until2014,SouthKoreamaintainedstrictquotasonimportedrice.IthasnowreplacedaquotawithimporttariffsdesignedtoprotectSouthKoreanricefarmers.Quotasdonotnormallybringinanyimmediatetaxrevenueforthegovernmentalthoughiftheycausedomesticproductionandincomestoexpand,therewillbeabeneficialimpactontaxespaid.
