Mission

The mission of the VA diversity and inclusion program is to grow a diverse workforce and

cultivate an inclusive work environment, where employees are fully engaged and empowered to deliver the outstanding services to our Nation’s Veterans, their

families, and beneficiaries.

D&I Strategic Goals

1. A Diverse Workforce: Grow a diverse, high-performing workforce that reflects all segments of our society and values all aspects of our human diversity.

2. An Inclusive and Engaged Organization: Cultivate an inclusive work environment and create an engaged organization that leverages diversity and empowers all contributors.

3. Outstanding Public Service: Facilitate outstanding, responsive public servicethrough principled leadership, shared accountability, and educated stakeholders.

ODI StructureWorkforce Analysis TeamManages and performs workforce analyses to identify potential barriers, trends, and patterns in the area of equal employment opportunity (EEO) and workforce diversity in the VA workforce.Conducts technical assistance and training on workforce analytics and barrier analyses.Creates tools, metrics, and reports for managers and supervisors to measure their workforce diversity and gauge progress in this area.

Outreach and Retention TeamManages the VA-wide affirmative employment programs, special emphasis programs, and outreach programs such as diversity-focused internship and career development programs.Performs compliance oversight and Technical Assistance Reviews on field EEO/D&I programs.Manages the VA-wide Disability Employment and Reasonable Accommodations Program.Develops and maintains positive and productive stakeholder relations in the community.

Training and Communications TeamFosters and manages D&I strategic planning.Develops VA-wide policy on D&I, No FEAR Act and whistleblower protections, and related workforce issues for issuance by the Secretary and Assistant Secretary.Supports the Diversity and Inclusion in VA Council.Develops and implements a wide portfolio of D&I training initiatives and consultation services.Manages a VA-wide communications program to increase awareness of EEO and D&I issues through electronic updates, newsletters, video broadcasts, and a Web site.
