Firefighters respond to an average of 373,900 home fires each year.
Studies show that home fires double in size every 30 seconds. Each second becomes increasingly vital.
Over 42% of reported home fires began in the kitchen. Question is how many go unreported?

These locations highlightwhere most fires in the kitchen occur: stovetop, ovens and electrical outlets.
The encompassed location are areas of opportunity that can be explored. Often times fire extinguishers are placed far away from the fire causing users to lose vital seconds.
OXYGEN
HEATFUEL
In order for a fire to begin and sustain itself, there are three basic requirements: fuel, heat and oxygen. A fire is prevented or extinguished by removing any one of the three.

+ =BAKING SODA VINEGAR CO2 FOAM
Combining Baking Soda (BASE) and Vinegar (ACID) create a reaction. The result is a carbon dioxide foam. Firefighters use a similar foams made up of a carbon dioxide gas phase which disperse in a liquid water phase. These foams smothers the fire by covering the fire and preventing oxygen from fueling the fire.

The Cyclone Fire Extinguisher is not meant to replace the fire extinguisher but act as a first response to kitchen fires. The design functions to improve issues with maintenance, cost, user emotion, and the overal safety of households.
THE CYCLONE
Prepared and confident in using the Cyclone in the case of a fire.
Maintenance is no longer an issue. No longer needs to replace fire extinguishers.
Designed to be set in plainview, the user remembers the location when needed.
Able to re-use Cyclone by utilizing common household products; baking soda and vinegar.
Protect the home and extinguish kitchen fires without wasting vital seconds.

The ideation behind these sketches were to explore forms where the HINS light could be used most effectively. The form was also influenced by attempting to lower the amount of surface area touched by the user.

reduction in surface bacterial levels
A narrow band of visible-light wavelengths centered on 405 nm which decontaminates the air and all visible surfaces, regardless of accessibility, through direct and reflected exposure to HINS-light within the treated environment.
HINS-light can make a significant impact towards bacterial decontamination in public environments.*
The HINS-light is being developed for use in hospital overhead lights and is not harmful to humans.
INTERVAL CLEANINGThe mouse cycles through the HINS light every hour for 30 seconds to ensure thorough cleaning, convenient for hour-interval reservations at libraries and cyber cafes.
REDUCED CONTACT SURFACEThe removed area in the center of the mouse reduces the amount of touch points that the user's hand has with the surface. The less surface area for the hand to touch, the less bacteria there is on the surface.

MANUAL CLEANINGWhen lifted off of a surface, the HINS light turns on and can be used manually to clean other objects, extending the functionality of the mouse.
IDLE CLEANINGBy pressing the button in the center, the mouse is raised revealing the HINS light. In this idle cleaning mode, users who leave for prolonged periods can have a peace of mind knowing their work station will be desanitized.

WHY DO THESE INJURIES & ACCIDENTS OCCUR?
CIRCULAR SAW INJURIES SEND
Kickback is the most common injury of saws and poses the greatest hazard. Kickback occurs when the rotating blade is stopped suddenly by contact with a more solid area throwing the saw and solid rapidly backward toward the operator.
KICKBACK INJURIES
72% OF INJURIES ARECAUSED BY KICKBACK
This anti kick-back device is formed in a leaf shape. When in use, the device is flipped down toward the wood. The shape creates friction between itself and the wood plank eliminating the possiblity of kickbacks and injuries.

KICK BACK DEVICE CREATES FRICTION
Nike's commitment to innovation towards athletes is to affect positive long-term changes that empower and support the communities which we live, work and play. Their belief that "if you have a body, you are an athlete" includes all living beings.
This idea inspired the redesign of the Dante hand-held circular saw. The ability to physically build and create continues Nike's pursuit toward great innovations.

Kendrick is a big fan old school hip-hop and rap. Often times he turns up the bass to feel the beat. Other times, he turns up the treble to listen closely to lyrics.
Veronica is an aspiring musician and loves to turn up the treble to listen closely and learn guitar solos. Other times she prefers to relax and zone out to mellow music.
