San Diego Cooperative Charter School 2 Parent Staff Association General Meeting Tuesday, November 11, 2015 5:00pm Minutes 1. Welcome (Mollie Shannon) a. Please enjoy donut samples (courtesy of Donut Bar) and enter our raffle for mini pies from Donut Bar in anticipation and celebration of this weekend’s fundraiser! 2. Icebreaker (TerriSue) a. Numbers teambuilding activity: standing in a circle, participants tried to follow a series of calling numbers out without hesitation or mistakes. Some singing was also involved! J 3. Board Report (Nelwyn Del Frate) a. The Gala is scheduled for May 21 st , a bit later than usual. Suzette James, a mom and co-chair of the Gala committee, will speak to the board at the November meeting about the Gala. b. The Eldorado County SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) will be answering questions at the January board meeting. They assist with SPED funds and SPED professional development. c. Giving Tuesday: Global day of giving, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving; December 1. Keep a look out for posts about that. d. Next CoOp Board meeting is Tuesday, November 17 th , 5pm at Linda Vista Campus. 4. Treasurer (Kate Ross) a. Field trips are paid for out of class funds. It’s important, if you can, to contribute to class funds. Books and supplies come out of class funds. Teachers get a start up fund at the beginning of the year but all other activities and supplies are paid for by class funds. b. Through Paypal (see link on website on the PSA Announcements page) you can set up a recurring donation for each month. c. Class funds are set up by grade level rather than by teacher so classes don’t start to feel like have or have-nots. i. Question: Maybe share dollar amounts so parents know when class funds are low? Answer: We don’t want any parents to feel pressure. We hope for around $20 per month per student, but this is difficult for some families. Class newsletters may share that funds are getting low. ii. Comment: Supplies in PM classes are getting low; please look at wish lists posted outside of classrooms. iii. Comment: Wacky and weird art supplies you find or have and would like to donate will get used in enrichment or EDP. iv. Question: I’ve been saving bubble wrap and toilet paper rolls—is that something I can contribute? Answer: If you bring it to the classroom or office, it will get used. 5. Fundraising (Terrisue Flores, Jim Riley, Kelli Rush) a. Scrip for sale! Scrip cards are prepaid shopping cards. There is a tutorial on the PSA website that shows how to sign up. Kori and Jorge will promote and do a sale of the cards prior to the holidays. Scrip is also good for budgeting for groceries and gas. b. Christmas trees: Mission Hills Nursery. For two or three weekends, if you bring a flier when you buy Christmas trees, the nursery will donate a percentage to the school. More info to come. c. Christmas ornaments will be for sale, made by Brandie. Some may be decorated but most will come in natural wood so the kids can decorate and personalize them. $5 each. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the school. d. Book Fair is coming: December 11 th -17 th at the South Campus. There will be a sign-up in the future for any parents who want to volunteer to help at the book fair. e. Bake Sale at our first Project Night on November 19 th . Look out for more info from Kelli. It was successful last year. She will need some help with the booth on Project Night.

ADMIN NOTES
• Thank you for supporting Halloween Carnival. Big thanks to Nicole and the PSA for organizing both the carnival and the Boo Parade.
• Enrollment is steady and waitlists are building. Since September we have added a few students to classrooms. Thank you for welcoming new families to our community.
• Applications for the 2016-17 school year are available and tours have begun. FACILITIES
• We appreciate your support and are continuing to dedicate resources in resolving our facilities situation. Here is where we are at on each of the three fronts
o District Prop 39 for Emerson or Bandini: Our 16-17 request received legal review and was submitted to SDUSD on October 29th. We should here back with initial inquiries in late December / early January. We believe the district has some intention with the Emerson/Bandini campuses. We are using a petitioning campaign to leverage District board members and staff to bring us to the table in planning. Thank you for signing and spread the Change.org petition.
o A different SDUSD space: Less desirable but we would entertain an offer. In exploring the ever-changing dynamics we are seeing the district pull prop 39 facilities at least two charters schools next year. One property is being sold and the other is being re-purposed. At this point we don’t know how many other schools are in the pool for prop 39 (excess space) for 16-17.
o Private Facilities: We continue to put feelers out for space throughout the region including a couple of churches. Recently CCSA sponsored an effort to get the City Council to expedite zoning for local charter schools.
• Look for an announcement soon about North campus office. • Campus Clean up/Gardening weekend: December 5th and 6th.
HEALTH & SAFETY
• Any amendment to a school day requires the parent/guardian to sign student in and out of school. Please work with the offices. We are trying to avoid, but may need to consider going to a pass system.
OPERATIONS
• EDP: Eboni and her is doing a wonderful job. Her staff is working hard at keeping the extended day connected to the school day in approach and in building community.
• Enrichment Program: Elaine is bringing some wonderful additions to our team and the kids have responded well to the new additions like, circus, dance, PE, music and art.
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
• Teacher want to thank parents for supportin them during recent Writers Workshop Publishing Parties and for the upcoming Projects / Project Night. Your time, energy and participation give the kids an authentic audience and purpose for their efforts.
