The emergency room visit and hospital admission rates are generally lower in zip code 94108 area than San Francisco overall. It could be because of lack of access to care, high healthcare cost and concerns about immigration status.

More San Francisco residents have health insurance as a results of Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the overall percent of residents without health insurance dropped to 3.3% in 2016. However, Chinatown still has one of the highest percentage of residents without health insurance.

SFUSD kindergarteners of color or from low-income areas are more likely to have caries experience than white kindergartner or those from high-income areas. Asian kindergartners have the second highest rate of caries among all the ethnic groups.
