Collaborators since 2000, Gibson and Recoder unite the rich traditions of the experimental film, particularly its structuralist and materialist strands, and the multi- modal sensibility of expanded cinema that emerged in the 1960s, in which the moving image was woven into the labile space of performance, sound and audience interaction. Their larger body of work explores this interstice between avant-garde film practice and the incorporation of moving images and time-based media into the museum and art gallery. On Monday, October 27 at 8:30 PM, Gibson and Recoder will give a lecture and presentation titled “Installations of the Moving Image” at the RISD Museumʼs Metcalf Auditorium. PROGRAM FOR TUESDAY, OCT. 28: Backlight Doubled 16mm film projection performance, black/white, silent, approx. 20 minutes. Override Double 16mm film projection performance, black/white, sound, approx. 20 minutes. Alignments for Linea Double 16mm film projection performance, black/white, sound, approx. 20 minutes. ** Magic Lantern is generously funded by the Forbes Center for Culture and Media Studies at Brown University and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
