Creating Climate Wealth Workshop

Earth Day Activities

Q2 2013

MBS Carbon Verification a Success

Once again, Las Vegas Sands disclosed our carbon

footprint to the Carbon Disclosure Project, an

organization that holds the world’s largest collection of

climate change, water and forest-risk data. In 2012, Las

Vegas passed the auditors test; this year, Marina Bay

Sands followed suit with another successful verification.

Big News >>>

Sir Richard Branson: No Climate Change Virgin

“Climate change is the biggest economic growth and job creating

opportunity of our generation,” said Branson, founder of Carbon

War Room and 400 other organizations under the Virgin Group.

L-R: George Tanasijevich, President and Chief Executive Officer, Marina Bay

Sands, Sir Richard Branson, Jose Maria Figueres, President, Carbon War Room.

Under the umbrella of Branson’s Carbon War Room initiative, the inaugural

Creating Climate Wealth Workshop was hosted by Marina Bay Sands (MBS) in

May 2013. The purpose of the event was to “identify profitable opportunities

that climate change offers.” To do so, MBS helped bring together a unique mix

of 250 select thought-leaders and industry experts to participate in workshops

related to five industry tracks.

Marina Bay Sands’ President and Chief Executive Officer George Tanasijevich

spoke at the event, saying, “Hosting Carbon War Room’s Creating Climate

Wealth (CCW) workshops at the Sands Expo and Convention Center is in line

with our objectives in ensuring that our business complies with that of an eco-

sustainable organization. This is further proof to the fact that Green business is

indeed good business.”

At the end of the day, the industry experts developed solutions that are

concrete, actionable and ultimately capable of accelerating, deploying and

exploiting clean technology. The workshop elevates sustainable theories into

practices – practices that will have lasting positive environmental impacts.

New Launch >>>

Sands China Partners with Clean

the World to Set up Shop in Asia

According to the World Health Organization, thousands of

children around the world die each day from illness and

diseases that can be prevented by washing with bar soap.

To combat this issue, Clean the World, the largest global

recycler of hotel amenities, collects soap from hotels (like

ours) and distributes it worldwide. The organization

partnered with Sands China in June to establish its first

international presence in Hong Kong and Macao.

“With our new soap cleansing and recycling facility, we

target to collect and recycle 100 metric tons of soap in our

first year in the region,” said Shawn Seipler, Co-founder

and CEO of Clean the World. “Partnering with Sands

China…is a significant step towards our expansion in Asia.”

This initiative also helps protect the environment by

diverting waste from incinerators and landfills by

repurposing the millions of bars of soap discarded daily.

Competition >>>

A total of 652 Marina Bay Sands Team Members participated in the I Will If

You Will challenge by submitting a picture promoting ‘lights out’ for Earth

Hour, 2013. As such, 652 trees were planted in the Atlantic Forest to support

the Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees campaign. The Atlantic Forest

is on the brink: only 12 percent of its original area remains and only 7 percent

of it is well conserved. Forest restoration activities – like purchasing trees –

are essential to rebuild the Atlantic Forest.

Prizes were distributed to Team Members who had the most-creative photos.

Two photo contest winners, Karina Peh and Alex Pang (far left), along with

the sustainability team pose with the De-Light Award in MBS’ SkyPark.

MBS Earns Esteemed De-Light Award

As part of I Will If You Will, Las Vegas Sands (LVS) committed

to plant a tree for each participating Team Member at the

property that had the highest Earth Hour participation rate.

Ask the experts >>>

You are what you eat: Green!

Macao creates an ‘Eat. Green.’ menu that is green both

environmentally and in terms of personal health.

Mandy Martin (Global Sustainability Manager, LVS): What

was the motivation to create healthier menu options?

Knut Becker (Exec. Dir., F&B, Sands Cotai Central): A green,

well-balanced diet is the key to a healthy body and mind.

Eating healthfully can boost energy and productivity.

MM: What are some of the options available?

KB: Some of my favorites are the vegetarian mushroom

burger, seafood casserole, and low sugar desserts of course!

MM: How does eating green also help the environment?

KB: The choices we make in our diets have a direct impact

on our planet. According to a 2006 report by the United

Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, a meat diet

causes more greenhouse gases than either transportation or

industry. While it’s not necessary to go strictly vegan, it does

help the planet to reduce the amount of meat consumed.

Also, processed foods tend to be more resource intensive to

produce, so eating more fresh food – those fruits and

vegetables – is better for the environment.

I Will If You Will Pledge Fulfilled

The Las Vegas hotel operations team installed windows,

trusses and re-enforcing beams and painted and caulked

eves on a job site build for Habitat for Humanity. They

volunteered in response to the I Will If You Will recyclables

collection drive and also donated funds to the organization.

“Just knowing that the time spent on the work site will

have a positive impact on someone’s life is an incredible

feeling.” – David Jackson, Hotel Operations, V|P

World Hunger Day >>>

$7,500 SG & 284 Care Packs of Non-Perishable

Food Donated to Fight Hunger in Singapore Marina Bay Sands matched every Team Member

dollar raised at a bake sale to benefit a local charity,

Willing Hearts. This volunteer-based non-profit

guides underprivileged, needy, and other

marginalized adults and children toward

rehabilitating and reinstating themselves in the

community as productive citizens.

A major part of the charity’s contribution is through

soup kitchens, where they serve about 75,000 meals

a month. MBS also organized a canned food

collection campaign that followed shortly after the

bake sale. Over 30 volunteers packaged the food into

care packs which were also donated to the charity.

Thank you MBS Team Members for giving back!

Earth Day >>>

Bethlehem showed recycling videos powered by bicycles, recycled

5,692 pounds of Team Member electronics, had Team Members sign a

recycling pledge, distributed tree saplings and planted trees.

Macao Team Members attended a public Environmental Awareness

Investigation Release conference hosted by the Macao government

and were encouraged to practice sustainable habits at home.

Las Vegas distributed Earth Hour photo prizes, enjoyed green

cupcakes, hosted Club Ride to showcase alternative transportation, and

learned about home energy audits from EnergyFit Nevada.

Singapore held a plastic bottle recycling drive and took Team

Members on eco-friendly field trips to the local recycling plant, Marina

Barrage, Edible Garden City, and NEWater Centre.

E-Recycling, Cupcakes, Field Trips, Prizes and Energy Audits, Oh My!

Las Vegas Sands’ Team Members celebrated Earth Day by enjoying a plethora of activities all across the globe.

Global Standards >>>

Sustainable Development

Standards Created

The Sustainable Development Standards

provide Las Vegas Sands’ with sustainable

owner project requirements for new

development projects or remodels and

renovations of existing properties.

With the addition of company specific

sustainability guidelines and requirements,

the standards are largely derived from the

Leadership in Energy and Environmental

Design (LEED) rating system. The document

outlines preferences in site development,

water and energy conservation, waste

management and recycling, material

selection and indoor environmental quality.

Green Meetings >>>

We’re Loving It!

In Las Vegas, exceptional waste

management methods fed into the

92% McDonald’s diversion rate.

Aggressive recycling and donation goals

were set – and exceeded – by Sands Expo

for the month-long McDonald’s event. To

achieve the goals, we helped train the

McDonald’s staff regarding composting,

recycling and sustainability in general.

Multi-stream recycling allowed more

upstream sorting, a first for a McDonald’s

event. Also, bottled water, hygiene kits,

plastic sheeting and play place equipment

were among the more than 8,800 pounds

of goods donated. Cheers to Sands Expo!

Green Key at Sands Bethlehem

Sands ECO360o Horticulture Display in Las Vegas

You’ve Been Seen Going Green

We like to take this opportunity to highlight exceptionally green Team

Members. We’re thrilled to award you the Sands ECO360o Green Star!

Geraldo Tao: Quality Management

Manager, C&E (Sands China)

Geraldo is an exceptional example of

truly living green - both in his

professional and personal life.

Working hand-in-hand in Macao with

Luisa Geraldes, Dir. of Sustainability,

Geraldo jumped in to implement the

Green Meetings program in Macao,

taking the lead in developing the

planning tool, brochure and procedures,

as well as conducting extensive training for the entire team.

“He likes to go above and beyond and is always coming up with new

initiatives,” complimented Jenny Yu, Dir. Of Global Sustainability (LVS).

He offered to develop the Chinese version of the Green Meetings

collateral, took the initiative to research and develop sustainable food

options for clients and encouraged his team to conserve energy by

turning off lights and air conditioning during lunch.

We’re told that Geraldo is also an expert on sustainable lifestyles.

Megan Verholy: Brand Manager

(Sands Bethlehem)

When it comes to stepping up to the

sustainability plate, few have done so

with the level of enthusiasm as Megan!

Megan was instrumental in leading the

charge for the I Will If You Will, Earth

Hour and Earth Day activities in

Bethlehem. She even convinced Sands

Bethlehem President Robert DeSalvio to

pedal a bike that powered a movie

projector in Team Member Dining.

Also, the Green Meetings program would not be in place today if it

weren’t for Megan’s dedication. She led the feasibility analysis,

designed the collateral, implemented policies and coordinated training.

What’s up next for Megan? She’s full steam ahead in helping Sands

Bethlehem earn the Green Key certification – stay tuned next quarter.

*New* Letters to ECO360o

This section gives us the opportunity to share notes from

guests or clients regarding sustainability at our properties.

Electric Car Charging a Hit in LV

“The ability to charge while we were there was the main

reason we chose the Venetian. If we hadn't been able to

charge we would definitely have stayed elsewhere… It's

now practical to take a long road trip in an EV. I drove from

San Jose, CA to stay with you. People making a trip like that

NEED to charge in order to be able to get home. It's not

just a convenience; it's a necessity… Thanks again. ”

accuracy of recycling bin colors,

and overall ‘wow’ factor.

The departments with the top

12 Green Corners also received a

special award plaque for their

effort and support.

Congratulations to Sands Macao

Table Games team and thank

you to all participants!

Green Jury Selects Greenest Corner
