Sandvik Coromant has launched a CoroDrill 870 exchangeable tip drill especial- ly designed for stainless steel. The CoroDrill 870 is part of a new generation of exchangeable-tip drills and can be tailored to improve applications through diameter range, steps and length pos- sibilities. Holes can be made more efficiently and closer to the specifications required, leaving them better suited to subsequent operations. Software updates for particle sizer Malvern Instrument’s Mastersizer 3000E. Malvern Instruments has developed software updates and a new laser diffraction particle sizing system, the Mastersizer 3000E. The new software fea- tures, which were developed in response to customer feedback, make it easier to obtain accurate particle size information. Mastersizer software is now available in eight languages. “One of the functions I am most pleased with, because it makes a huge difference to so many of our users, is the new mimic mode for method transfer,” said Dr Paul Kippax, product group manager at Malvern. “This makes it easy to replicate the analysis Carpenter introduces stainless steel for Swiss-style screw machines Carpenter has launched PROJECT 70®+ PDB stainless steel, a new family of machin- ing bar designed specifically for use with CNC Swiss-style screw machines in the US. The bars are precision drawn to ASTM half standard or ISO H9 tolerances and can help fabricators and machine shops maximize their pro- ductivity. A highly secure interface between drill body and tip ensures reliability and preci- sion, while the quick and easy tip-change procedure maxi- mizes active machining time. The new cutting edge geometries and grades pro- vide a safe cutting process, allowing for increased pen- etration rates while maintain- ing chip control and increas- ing tool life. Grade GC2234 includes a fine-grained, high- chromium substrate and a new PVD coating with opti- mized composition for ISO M drilling (stainless). The thin AlTiN PVD coating includes enhanced adhesion steps, resulting in longer tool life and increased chipping resistance. Sandvik’s drill is availa- ble in diameter range 10.00– 26.65 mm (0.394–1.049 inch) and lengths up to 8 × drill diameter as standard. Each drill body has an inter- face size with matching tips to achieve hole tolerances of H9–H10.
