WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?In math this week, we continued working on

division. We learned two different strategies to usewhen dividing long numbers. We also learned differentways to represent the remainder – including asfractions and decimals. We will wrap up our unit onmultiplication and division next week and have our unit

test on Thursday. Work with your math packet thisweekend using the division method you prefer. Makesure to show your work. Please continue to practicemath facts at home! There are also some great gamesand activities under the math links on our classwebpage.

We continued work with our current IBPlanner, titled Civil Struggles . The central idea of this

planner is that societies have civil conflicts due todifferences. Inquiry this week focused on the Civil War in the United States. Students imagined that they were

Union soldiers in Gettysburg as they visited differentstations around the room to learn about life as a soldier during that time. Next week, we will look at differentconflicts of the past and present time. Angie Roe was aspecial guest in our room and was a wealth of information about the Civil War. Thank you Angie!

In literacy, students are writing their reflectionsabout the book, FROM SLAVE SHIP TOFREEDOM ROAD, by Julius Lester. Your paragraphis due Monday about “When I Was Young. . . . Thatwas the last time I saw him. Parents can edit their

children’s writing and sign that you edited it. Spellingthis week focused on words with suffixes and wordswith different endings. Students should have their spelling words written in their Trackers every week.

DARE this week focused on peer pressure and bullying. Students learned several strategies to helpthem in different situations.

As we approach the spring, please remind your child to be responsible with turning work in on time.We are trying to instill good habits as they make thetransition on to middle school next year.
