Cleanliness
Children’s welfare
(benefits of having a toilet of their own)
Barriers
o Toilet perceived as expensive
o Not budget for toilet construction
o Competing priorities for allocating HH finances
o Difficulty or challenging environments and access to water
o Lack of suppliers offering complete sanitation package or solution
o No mechanisms for financing capital outlay, e.g. BUB, MFI, etc.
o Issue of land tenure; Informal settlers waiting to be relocated
What we learned from households on what drive and hinder them from
investing on toilets

A. Skills Training Program
Equip masons/carpenters with additional skills to produce
quality and tested sanitation products as well as properly
install them. This training can launch skilled workers to
become rural sanitation entrepreneurs.
Training Modules:
1. Fabrication of:
a. Concrete rings for sub-structures –
Two types: 1 footer; 2 footer
B. Prototype development for manual desludging
More poor households constructing their ownn toilets,
means the need for affordable desludging services provided
by the LGU or a local businessman.
