FUNCTIONS!
As you turn the crank on the bottom it winds up a spring inside a metal cap. The spring then unwinds turning a
series of gears that turns a metal drum. The metal drum hits against the little prongs, called a pitch comb, and
sends the noise through the air to the ears making sound. Which together all of the notes sound likes a song.
HOW I THINK IT WORKS
ASSEMBLY
Took the main piece and put the pitch comb and speed controller on
Screwed the base in and also put the holding screw into the drum
Added the top panel, red case, the poles, top and bottom screws, and crank
PARTS
Top and bottom screws, crank, and poles
Pitch Comb and speed controller
Top and Bottom panels with red case
In late 19th century, Germany thought of an idea of small music boxes
The idea wasn’t made into reality until WWII where Japan used some of them to boost moral for some soldiers.
The Germans got the idea from 15th century bells being rung by a metal cylinder and pins.
In Paris, France, the music box was formed into the singing of birds
Japan expanded the idea making more tunes into music box
They used the drum method and used pitch combs
