EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD | 3

A VISIT TO HEAVEN

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first sec"on and said, “This is the Receiving Sec"on. Here, all pe""ons to God said in prayer are received.”

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sor"ng out pe""ons wri#en on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.

Then we moved on down a long corridor un"l we reached the second sec"on.

The angel then said to me, “This is the Packaging and Delivery Sec"on. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them.”

I no"ced again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that sta"on, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small sta"on. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. “This is the Acknowledgment Sec"on,” my angel friend quietly admi#ed to me. He seemed embarrassed “How is it that there is no work going on here?” I asked. “So sad,” the angel sighed. “A$er people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments.” “How does one acknowledge God 's blessings?” I asked.

“Simple,” the angel answered. Just say, “Thank you, Lord!”

“What blessings should they acknowledge?” I asked.

“If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of this world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish, you are among the top 8% of the world 's wealthy.

“And if you get this on your own computer, you are part of the 1% in the world who has that opportunity.

“If you woke up this morning with more health than illness. You are more blessed than the many who will not even sur-vive this day.”

“If you have never experienced the fear in ba#le, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starva"on. You are ahead of 700 million people in the world.

“If you can a#end a church without the fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death you are envied by, and more blessed than, three billion people in the world.

“If your parents are s"ll alive and s"ll married, you are very rare.

“If you can hold your head up and smile, you are not the norm, you are unique to all those in doubt and despair. “

Ok, what now? How can I start?

If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you as very special and you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

Have a blessed day, count your blessings, and if you are able, pass this along to remind everyone else how blessed we all are.

ATTN: Acknowledge Department: “Thank you Lord, for giving me the ability to share this message and for giving me so many wonderful people with whom to share it!”

Let us be especially grateful today as we celebrate our Lord’s Resurrec"on!!! A blessed Easter to all!!!

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Our God is alive!

The resurrec"on of Jesus Christ represents renewal in our lives. Transformed by His grace and mercy, this is a glorious "me in our faith journey.

As we celebrate Easter, the founda"on of our religion, let it inspire and direct our thoughts, decisions and ac"ons, and our care for each other. In the words of Pope Francis, "Let us be amazed by Jesus so that we can start living again, for the grandeur of life lies not in possessions and promo"ons, but in realizing that we are loved and in experiencing the beauty of loving others."

May the joy of Christ’s Resurrec"on fill our hearts and homes this Easter Season, sharing His love which He has poured out to us with everyone we encounter. Let His light shine through us, giving light and hope to the world as we serve our living God.

Happy Easter!

Gospel Reading John 20:1-9

Mary of Magdala finds that the stone has been removed from Jesus' tomb. Jesus is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!

In the Easter Gospel we hear about how the disciples found the tomb empty three days a$er Jesus' death. We are also told that they do not yet understand the Scriptures, or that Jesus had been raised from the dead. That understanding gradually unfolded for the disciples as they began to experience the Risen Lord. Similarly, our understanding of Jesus' Resurrec"on unfolds for us throughout our lives. In the weeks ahead, we will hear how the first disciples moved from confusion, doubt, and skep"cism to faith. Their experience can teach us how we too might receive this gi$ of faith from God.

YOUTH MINISTRY Life Teen message from Kelly Dunnahoo

Today’s Gospel reading tells us about a footrace between Peter and “the other disciple.” We know that “the other disciple” is John himself, because he always referred to himself as the “one whom Jesus loved.” John tells us that he reached the tomb first because he ran faster than Peter. Is this because he was younger and therefore in be#er shape? Maybe. But the thing with John’s Gospel is that even his seemingly throwaway lines have theological meaning. Therefore, it is more reasonable to think that this story is about faith. John certainly had an amazing faith and trust in Jesus and his hunger for Jesus caused him to get to the tomb as quickly as possible. Note, however, that John did not go into the tomb un"l Peter had already entered. The fact that John didn’t enter first is not a hesita"on due to fear or a lack of faith. His strong desire was put to the side because he knew that Peter was the head of the apostles.

I challenge you to imagine yourself in that race. Mary of Magdala has just told you that someone had taken Jesus from the tomb and she doesn’t know where He is. But you have been with Jesus for the past three years and all of a sudden the crazy things He had said about His Resurrec"on suddenly make sense. You are in the best shape of your life. You are physically able to run very fast. But you are very "red as well. The past couple of days have been so emo"onally draining. Does your love for Jesus help you overcome your exhaus"on and propel you to the tomb with an extraordinary longing for Him? I think most of us would say “yes” in that situa"on. Now, come back to the present day. Do you feel that same craving for Jesus? Do you want to spend "me with Him in prayer? I think most of us have a harder "me with these ques"ons. We have a lot of distrac"ons in our lives and it is easy to try to sa"sfy that hunger with other things. It is even more difficult during this past year because we have been separated from our faith community.

But don’t despair – as John Paul II told us, “We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song.” Alleluia (Hallelujah) means “Praise the Lord!” As we go through the Easter season, which ends on Pentecost (May 23 this year) let us focus on our desire and hunger for Jesus. Let us remember that He opened the way to eternal life. Ask Him to give you the strength to run to Him as fast as you can and to hold on to Him your en"re life. Life Teen is a community for teenagers where we help each other, through support and prayer, to be inten"onal disciples and lead others to Christ. Unfortunately, we are not able to meet during the pandemic. However, the adult volunteers remain commi#ed to suppor"ng our teenagers whenever possible. If you would like to pray with two of the adult volunteers, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will set up a Zoom mee"ng for you.

Seeking a dynamic, Inten"onal Disciple to serve as our Parish Youth Minister. This will be part "me to start and will transi"on to full "me.

The Youth Minister provides vision, in assis"ng the Parish Community in its mission of calling youth to inten"onal discipleship by providing leadership and coordina"on for parish sponsored efforts in ministry to young people from 7th grade through 12th grade. Serving with teams of volunteers, the Youth Minister's faith-filled approach to evangelizing young people and their families will include high school and junior high school faith-forming sessions, Confirma"on prep, service projects for teens, community-building social ac"vi"es and youth prayer-liturgies and retreats.

A love for Jesus and His church, an understanding of missionary discipleship and a passion for youth ministry are required. If interested please email: [email protected].
