Presidents Report

Greetings to all. I am glad to see the restrictions are being eased slightly Not quite locked in & can leave home for any reason with a 25 km travel limit etc. I hope we as a state community can keep the Virus cases at Zero or very close to that figure. It seems we are winning the battle with Covid19 but Melbourne members are still locked in in Melbourne Metro. This makes it difficult to foresee any organized drives until we can drive further out & gather in bigger numbers. Workplaces are reopening slowly so we can move on & get our lives back to near normal again. As I have advised previously we have events sitting ready to go as soon as our Government gives the permission we all look forward to. There is not much to report this month. There have been some changes to VicRoads Club Permit use conditions. Thanks to the contributors to T Torque. Well Done! Keep the articles coming please! I will need to give a reminder that we still have some outstanding subscriptions overdue, please check & get them in ASAP. Remember that Club permits are only valid to club members. VicRoads now allow online payment of Club Permits. There is a VicRoads endorsement form that must be signed by the Club CPS officers to confirm that applicant is a financial club member etc. Our 40th Anniversary car & lapel badges are available still , purchasing information is published in T Torque. I am hoping that we can gather soon & go driving our cars seeing some different scenery. Hopefully we will be able to "Rally" very soon OR in the New Year! Well that`s it for now. Bye, Safe Driving ,Stay Heathy "See you over the running board" Dave & Chez

TOO MANY PROJECTS—By Dean Williams –Part One This was meant to go in last month's newsletter but Ann forgot to press "send" oops so some of these things sound a bit out of place now that some of the restrictions have been lifted. So think back to life in September. Well to start with I've got a half built kitchen which I can't finish because Covid is preventing me get-ting someone in to do bench tops. Secondly I have two cars to paint which are at my Mum's property where the spray booth is which I can't finish because Covid is preventing me from driving more than 5km. One is a Mini Moke in undercoat and the other is a '37 Plymouth in etch prime. So I looked in the shed for things to do and I found a brand new tandem trailer in a million bits, that I was going to make to take to Queensland but ended up buying a Ford F350 truck instead, have to start and finish trailer and sell it on but can't finish that because it looks too much like hard work and I don't feel like it. So I looked in my garden shed, well my parts and panels shed, and found a 1927 Model T cowl and 2 front doors.

I decided to make a Ute. I cut out the rust and made patch panels for the cowl and made some rear quarters, found some old ute sides I had made a couple of years ago and whacked it all together. I also respoked the wheels for it with brand new timber spokes that I made. Now making parts to make it all fit so when we finally get out of Stage 4 I'll have 3 cars to paint. This Covid has made me busier than ever. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon for all of us and I'll be able to finish all my projects.

TOO MANY PROJECTS—Dean Williams—Part 2 Well a month has gone by, restrictions have beckoned off a bit and I've been busy working on the 1927 Model T ute, I've been making brackets and more panels. I wasn't happy with the back of the front seat curve so I've looked in the shed for something round to replicate the curve and I found a 14" plastic bucket lid which was perfect. I made up another panel which was 100mm too big, traced the bucket lid onto the panel, cut it with the grinder, bent it around by hand and spot welded it on. I was happy with the curve so I welded it on the inside of the panel.

Page 6: Santa’s Coming! - WordPress.com · 2020. 12. 31. · Daryl's commitment and passion for historic motoring and our club's events is without parallel. Daryl leaves the RACV at the

Page 6 MODEL T TORQUE November 2020

I've got a 240v, CIG 165 mig that I'm running .6 mig wire and carbon gas. To set up your mig welder with 1mm panel steel you have to get a bit of scrap panel steel and weld about an inch long on the top of the scrap steel. You have to play with the wire speed and amps. When the welder sounds like the smooth sound of chips frying and weld is melting in nice and penetrating through then, voila, you're weld is done. So when you butt weld two panels you can't weld it all in one go because it will get too hot and distort on you. You have to have a small gap between the panels and spot weld, move to the edge of the spot weld and weld again. Do this four times then stop and use an air gun to cool it down. When it's cool to touch do another four spot welds, stop, and cool it down again. Keep doing this until your weld is done. Other people may have their own way of doing it but this is what works for me.

Page 7 MODEL T TORQUE November 2020

I've still got some more welding to do and then after that I hopefully next month I'll be able to go to the steel suppliers and get some special tubes to make a windscreen frame which I will tell you about next month if all goes to plan. Cheers Dean Williams

A Message to Members of the Model T Ford Club of America

Located outside of the United States We are very pleased to announce that the Vintage Ford magazine will be delivered to you via email in digital format

beginning with the September-October 2020 issue.

We will continue to mail a print copy of the magazine as well.

Over the past 1-2 years the international postal delivery service has slowed considerably. We have been unable to

identify or solve this problem and it only got worse during COVID-19, which shut down customs processing in many

of the countries where our members live. It has been frustrating for both members and our business office. It has

also been costly to mail replacement copies for issues that never arrived.

The print copy of the magazine will be mailed via the usual postal channels.

Please help us communicate this new benefit of MTFCA membership to others in your area or local chapter. It is

easy to join and renew membership at our website: www.MTFCA.com

All conversion rates are handled automatically if you pay using credit card or PayPal.

Annual membership rates payable in U.S. dollars are:

$50.00 Canada $56.00 All Other Countries

We are anxious to know your thoughts on the new digital format. Please email your comments or questions to:

Dear Member Clubs 25th October 2020 It is with great disappointment we advise you of the recent decision by the RACV to cease their Motoring Interests Program. This program has been a beacon for many clubs, connecting the motoring enthusiast with communities across Victoria. In fact, many people may not own their current veteran, vintage or classic vehicles without the awareness that this program and its supported events have created. Of special acknowledgment is the personal dedication to this program by Daryl Meek. Many of you would have worked with Daryl on events large and small. Daryl's commitment and passion for historic motoring and our club's events is without parallel. Daryl leaves the RACV at the end of the month with fond memories that we, as motoring clubs, have been a part of. Please join me in thanking Daryl for his tireless enthusiasm, expertise, energy, and friendship over the 7 years in this role. The Association is disappointed by the decision of the RACV to terminate this essential and worthwhile program linking the Victorian community, motoring culture and history. Iain Ross President

Message from AOMC

From the Editor

Each month we look forward to receiving interesting article and photos from our members for inclusion on our magazine, we are always looking for more and never have too much. At times we are sent articles where the copywrite belongs to someone else and unless we can get permission from the owner of the copywrite then we are not able to include that material in our magazine. A recent example, Chris Dillion provided a great article from Professional Car a magazine published in the USA. We wrote to the editor and were granted permission to circulate a copy of the magazine “as is” to our members, Andrew emailed a copy to the membership in late October. The best content for our magazine is what you are doing with your cars, the magazine is an ideal forum for us to share with other likeminded “T” enthusiasts. Thank you for your continued support and look forward to receiving your articles of interest.

REMINDER FOR UP COMING REGISTRATIONS THAT ARE DUE. Hello there to all our club members, Your committee felt that a reminder for people (especially those with multiple cars/bikes to keep a track of) of their upcoming registration due on their vehicles would be a good idea. Thus far it has jogged the memories or RTA checking of a few members, so is proving worthwhile. If you no longer own or have the listed vehicle on red plates can you please ring the secretary and let her know. This list has been compiled from our current registration register.
