Turning waste to values

innovative structured serious flexible

SAR AS was established in 1987 with the purpose of collecting and receiving hazardous waste. Since then SAR has grown extensively. Developments and experience over the years have earned SAR total waste handling contracts with most major international oil companies operating in Norway, and our business areas in Norway now comprise onshore and offshore activities along the Norwegian coast.

During the last few years we have also turned our head towards the rest of the world. Our international expansion started with the Middle East and India and in 2007 we established offices and operations in India with Kuwait, Dubai, Jordan and Saudi Arabia to follow.

SAR AS is a specialist in Total Waste Management from all Oil & Gas activities such as drill cuttings treatment, OBM slop treatment, oil recovery, crude oil sludge treatment, oil contaminated soil treatment, pit remediation, tank cleaning and oil water treatment.

Our strategy is to offer world wide services to our customers by establishing waste handling and treatment facilities on all required locations world wide.

The SAR system has been specially designed for on-site treatment of a wide range of contaminated soil and heavy oil sludge materials from tanks, pits or lagoons. Unique TechnologyThe SAR developed washing process, washes andseparates oil contaminated soil. The soil is washed in several steps using sand scrubbers, spiral classifiers, hydro cyclones and vibrating screens. A SAR formula biodegradable surfactants are implemented.

Facts• The process is controlled by a fully automatic PLC system• Treated soil can be used on-site as backfill • Process water is completely recycled in a closed loop circuit • No water discharge • Unlike biological or thermal treatment, the washing technology can treat soil contaminated by inorganic compounds, such as heavy metals • Plant unit is mobile and can be transported to site for on-site treatment• Plant unit can be scaled in accordance with project capacity requirements

The Thermomechanical Cuttings Cleaner (TCC) is a separation technology intended for separation of the various components in drill cuttings where Oil Based Mud (OBM) is used in the drilling operation. PrincipleThe drilling waste is separated into three main components, solids, base oil and water. In the TCC the waste is heated by transforming kinetic energy to heat by friction. The particles will be forced towards the inner wall of the chamber where the end of the hammer arms will pound the particles and create frictional heat.

Facts• The process is controlled by a fully automatic PLC system• Base oil is fully recovered with a very high quality (un-cracked) and can be re-used as fuel in new OBM, boilers or diesel engines• Oil content in solids after treatment equals 3000–4000 ppm• Capacity 4–6 tons per hour, depending on engine size and water content in the waste• The only thermal technology approved for offshore use in the North Sea• Mobile units, effective mobilization and demobilization

Oily sludge/ OBM slopSAR offers a cost effective solution for a wide variety of sludge treatment applications inclusive crude oil from tank bottoms, sludge from waste lagoons, refinery generated waste and OBM slop. Unique methodology SAR has developed a unique technology to treat the oily sludge and to recover valuable oil.

Through an extensive testing and optimization program, SAR has also developed a series of chemical formulas that releases the oil from the surface of solids.

Facts• The chemicals used are safe, non-toxic and biodegradable• The process does not require organic solvents• Low energy consumption• The solids residue can be disposed as landfill depending on local regulations• Cost effective treatment• Flexibility to handle a large variation in the sludge composition• Reclaiming a high percentage of oil

SAR has a proven technology to treat waste water generated from on- and offshore oil & gas industry, ships and refineries.

The waste water is mostly offshore generated and includes oil-contaminated water, ballast water, engine-room slop and heavy metal-contaminated waste water.

SAR has different water treatment methods depending on the origin and the content of contaminants: • Cross flow filtration by ultra filtration and nano filtration removes heavy metal, oil emulsions and suspended matter• Flocculation and coagulation agents are added in order to separate out oil, heavy metals and suspended matter• Bio-degradation of dissolved organic compounds by a robust and unique bacteria population growing in a sea water enhanced environment
