Larry Sabato predicted Obama was going to win a ew weeks in advance, and he is good
with predicting those types o things. Thomas Wolford (10). I was up until 3 a.m. to
watch Obama win. I think hes a lot better than Mitt Romney. Henry Gritton (9). I elt
like Romney didnt really reach out to a wide enough variety o people, and Obama really
ocused to connect with people throughout his campaign.Annie Stone (10).
PARTY ROCKIN| Members o the Obama amily celebrate on stage
at the Chicago election night rally Nov. 6 as conetti rains down on a
cheering audience. Mesa Serikali (11) attended with several journalism
students and teachersadorned with ofcial press credentialsto
report on the event, standing or hours to keep their spots. I was
eeling three dierent emotions at once. One was oh my god, my eet
hurt, said Serikali. [It] was kind o like an overwhelming moment... I
got to see the president, which most people dont get to experience
in their lietime. They only get to see him on TV and in magazines, but
I got to photograph the president. I can keep the photos to show my
kidsI had that picture. I was there. Photo by Liz Palmer
Election Reactions
on November 6, election night, the states results
streamed across CNN. Mikel Jordan (12) was hooked the whole night. Kentucky
was one o the frst: Romney. Vermont: Obama. South Carolina, West Virginia,
and Indiana: Romney. Connecticut, Illinois, Rhode Island, Massachusetts: Obama.
Oklahoma: Romney. Back and orth until the swing states came in. Ohio, New
Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida: Obama.
United States: Obama. My eyes were pretty much glued to the TV, Jordan said. Everyone pretty
much knew that Romney was going to win Indiana and Kentucky, so those
werent surprising, but at times they would show that Romney was in the lead, so
it made me a little nervous. But then at 10:30 or 11:00, the ofcial results started
coming in, and at frst there were more red than blue. But then more results
started coming in. At 11:30 or 12:00, I went to sleep because I was nervous, but
I woke up at 2:00 a.m. and I saw that Obama had won, so everything was okay.
