1 BIRLA VIDYA NIKETAN Sarala Birla Group of Schools Activity Report- AUGUST, 18 EVENTS/ACTIVITIES AT BVN Tushya Mehta of class XII has been chosen to join the Junior Academy of the New York Academy of Sciences. DATE EVENT DESCRIPTION ATTENDED BY 8 th August, 18 Japanese Delegation Visit The objective of the visit was to understand the teaching methodologies being used in Birla Vidya Niketan and Japanese schools to strengthen the ties between two countries through academic/cultural exchange programs. The team of delegation curiously mingled with the children in Yukata’s (Japanese Traditional dress) singing Japanese song. Japanese learners of class VI 14 th August, 18 Eco Club Activities Eco Club students participated in plantation activities in the park adjacent to junior school. As per CBSE guidelines only native species were planted. The saplings were measured and named after martyrs. The saplings will be nurtured by Eco Club till they turn into self- sustaining trees. Students of Eco Club 13 th to 17 th August, 18 French Language Week Students participated in the French activities conducted during the French language week. French workshop- Importance of French, future prospects, examination, Francophonie and certifications in French were its integral part. Japanese Delegation Visit

The objective of the visit was to understand the teaching methodologies being used in Birla Vidya Niketan and Japanese schools to strengthen the ties between two countries through academic/cultural exchange programs. The team of delegation curiously mingled with the children in Yukata’s (Japanese Traditional dress) singing Japanese song.

Eco Club Activities

Eco Club students participated in plantation activities in the park adjacent to junior school. As per CBSE guidelines only native species were planted. The saplings were measured and named after martyrs. The saplings will be nurtured by Eco Club till they turn into self-sustaining trees.

German Language Week

As a part of German language week celebration, several activities were organized for German learners. The activities served as a combination of enhancement of language and creativity skills of students. Various charts based on comparison between different states of India and Germanywas made and students spoke in German on the same. The students learned a German song based on origin and culture of Germany.The students made a watch in class, in which the numbers were in German. Some of them also digitalized their clocks and had set them in real working.Interview about daily routine and enactment on a song based on same.

Sanskrit Language Week

Chanting Shlokas, and reciting poems of eminent Sanskrit poets and discussions activities were done by students to promote the essence of Sanskrit culture and learning.

Independence Day Celebration

BVN celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with great enthusiasm and respect. The ceremony started in the morning in school open. The celebration continued with patriotic songs and dance performances by students.

BVN organized a rally titled “TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE” The students crafted posters and banners which illustrated problems such as population explosion, deforestation, climate change, traffic jams, malnutrition etc.

Road Safety campaign at BRT

Students went at BRT traffic signal to create awareness about the traffic rules. They distributed safety rules pamphlets with the help of traffic police. It was a good experience for children.

water. Water related issues throughout the world were discussed and solutions were sought by the students. The audio visual aids were used to depict the significance and methods of harvesting water. It was quite a learning experience for all.

Science Week Various activities were conducted like- Science Exhibition -Models on various scientific and innovative ideas were displayed by the students of class IX. Poster Making: Class VI Students made posters to spread awareness about vector borne diseases Presentation: Ms Aishwarya Tipnis, BVN alumni, gave a presentation on the topic ‘The Role of Science in Heritage Conservation’ to the students. Special Assembly- Studentsof classes VI and VII presented a street play on prevention of vector borne diseases. Fun with Science- Students of class VIII performed interesting experiments in their class which gave them hands on experience. NSO Mock test- The mock test was conducted on 29th Aug for classes VI to X and science sections of classes XI and XII.

Student’s Interactions with Alumni

Rohan Kapoor is an alumunus of BVN; having passed his class 12 in the year 2015.After his completion of graduation from Shri Venkateshwara College, he is steering to the university of Gottingen, Germany which has produced forty seven noble laureates including revolutionary scientist laureates like Hans Kreb and Heisenberg Gauss. He will be getting monthly stipends as well as a full scholarship.

Mr MikkoLeppänen, Principal, Espoo Viherkallio School, Finland was the speaker who in his presentation explained the organisational and operational system of the schools at Finland. Finland is the world leader in school education.
