We know that all things work for good for those who love God,
who are called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,
Queen of the Angels & Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana.
Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness.
For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust.
In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another
and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.
We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy.
Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus.
Amen.
A Prayer from St. Teresa of Avila
“Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things pass away. God
never changes; patience obtains all things, whoever has God lacks nothing.
God alone suffices.”

Our Adult Faith Formation
During the Year of Scripture in the Lansing Diocese, we’ll be offering many programs that emphasize just how important the Word of God (Jesus Christ) is in our life: 1. “The Bible Timeline” starting in September 2. Do our good works, e.g. Matthew 25:31-46 tip the scales of
judgement in our favor? If so, how? 3. “The Psalms: School of Prayer” starting in September 4. The Advent of Christ: Scripture Reflections to Prepare for
Christmas beginning in December 5. “First Corinthians” starting in January 6. The Joy of the Gospel starting in February for Lent 7. “Acts of the Apostles” starting in April “Bible study?” Certainly! But much, much more as these sessions give us all the opportunities to share our encounters with Jesus Christ, THE Word of God, in an encouraging environment.

The 75th Anniversary of Hiroshima & Nagasaki
“Here in this city which witnessed the catastrophic humanitarian and environmental consequences of a nuclear attack, our attempts
to speak out against the arms race will never be enough. The arms race wastes precious resources that could be better used to benefit the integral development of peoples and to protect the natural environment. In a world where millions of children and families live in inhumane conditions, the money that is squandered and the fortunes made through the manufacture, upgrading, maintenance and sale of ever more destructive weapons, and an affront crying out to heaven.” (Pope Francis, Address on Nuclear Weapons, Nagasaki, November 24, 2019)
“Be the Bridge” from Racism to Equality
Chapter 1 of Latasha Morrison’s book Be The Bridge is entitled “How We Begin.” Latasha writes, “…the work of racial reconciliation requires a certain posture. If you’re White, if you come from the majority culture, you’ll need to bend low in a posture of humility. You may need to talk less and listen more, opening your heart to the voices of your non-White brothers and sisters… If you’re [non-White], you’ll need to come with your own posture of humility, you might need to confess internalized racism and colorism. You’ll need to correct and instruct when necessary and will need to recognize the effort of those trying to cross the bridge. Latasha ends this first chapter with a couple of probing questions: 1. Have you studied the history of non-White cultures? How? What
books, documentaries, videos? How many of them authored or produced by a person of a different ethnicity than yours?
2. What do you think it looks/sounds like for participants to approach conversations about racial reconciliation in humility?
“God is inviting all of us to be active participants in racial reconciliation, to show the world that racial unity is possible through Christ.”
Our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA Question of the Week: Should/can we expect our Parish to help us do mystagogy? RCIA Answer of the Week: Just this past week, the Vatican released “The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church.” This document has good counsel for us as parishioners of St. Therese Parish. “Pastoral conversion” [conversion of the parish] challenges our Christian communities [St. Therese Parish] to be ever more “a center conducive to an encounter with Christ,” “a lamp on a lamp-stand.” (Mk 4:21) Remember last week’s answer - how our own practice of mystagogy (leading us into the mystery of God’s self-revelation in our lives) is so crucial to our family and friends. Our mystagogy, spotlighting our own encounters with Christ, should/can lead our family and friends to our parish where we are a “center conducive to an encounter with Christ.” Believe it? Next Week: More from “The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelizing Mission of the Church.”
