Sarasota 2050 Policy - Revisited
Overall, 2050 Policy is intended…
…to improve the quality of life for the community through a unique growth
management framework that allows for continued growth and economic development while preserving
environmentally sensitive lands and open space within a fiscally neutral policy.
Sarasota 2050 Policy - Revisited
Primarily the ‘why’ of 2050 Policy…
…is continued growth & economic development based on 3 main tenets:Open Space is the ‘how’New Urbanism is the ‘how’Fiscal Neutrality is the ‘how’
Sarasota 2050 Policy - RevisitedThe 3 main tenets as applied east of the Urban Service Boundary (USB)… Open Space: Implements an inter-connected
system that conserves natural habitats and preserves agricultural/ranch lands.
New Urbanism: Implements a unique form of development that is compact, walk-able, inter-connected, and has a variety of housing types and a mix of uses.
Fiscal Neutrality: Implements development that does not add any financial burden to existing residents.
Sarasota 2050 Policy - RevisitedThe fundamental core concept of the Open Space tenet is…
… the implementation of the Open Space system through the percentages required with each form
of 2050 type development, and the mandated acquisition via Transfer of Development Rights
(TDRs) of all dwelling units above the Semi-Rural and Rural land use designations currently
identified for the property on the Future Land Use Map of the Comprehensive Plan
(0.5du/ga & 0.2du/ga acre respectively).
