MAJOR SPONSORS

On behalf of our CEO Vince Camera and our board of directors, Blacktown City FC

welcomes Blacktown Spartans FC, our loyal fans and sponsors to Lily Homes Stadium for this round 9 fixture.

We also welcome Mayor Stephen Bali for the honour of presenting the Mayoral Cup over the eventual two leg winner of this keenly contested and now traditional cross city derby.

In lieu of the Sunday Mother’s Day weekend our club would also like to thank all Blacktown Spartan FC and Football NSW officials in agreeing to switch this fixture to tonight.

Mark Crittenden and the boys will be looking to make amends from last week’s hard fought loss to Rockdale City Suns and get ahead of the pack early. We look forward to getting back to our winning ways and wish all the boys and our technical staff and match day officials the very best tonight. We also wish all our SAP and Youth teams along with the coaching staff and managers the best for what will be a marathon Saturday at Lily Homes Stadium with the first game kicking off at 8.30am.

In our program you will find some photos of last week’s pre game commemorative Anzac day weekend. A special thanks to Bill Belcher O.A.M. and director of the Blacktown City Band for his inspiring rendition of the Last post and Reveille.

Lest we Forget.

Tonight for our half time entertainment we are pleased to see the return of the wonderful young ladies from the Step up and Dance group from Kings park. Thank you to Tiffany and the parents that have joined us here tonight.

We also feature a bio profile on our club social media guru Richard Wolff who tirelessly dedicates his time to promoting our great club via social and business media streams.

The Blacktown Mayor’s Cup will go on the line as local rivals Blacktown City and Blacktown

Spartans square off at Lily Homes Stadium on Saturday night.

It has been contrasting fortunes for City and Spartans so far this season.

Blacktown City is once again near the top of the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition ladder and remains one of the toughest teams in the league.

However, It has been a difficult season so far for Blacktown Spartans with only two wins from eight matches.

Form goes out the window on derby day and the Spartans will be desperate to get one over its more favoured opposition.

The two sides from Blacktown come face to face for the first time this season at Lilys Football

Centre on Saturday and the derby carries an air of significance that has been absent in previous meetings between the two sides.

The Spartans have proven to be one of the competition’s surprise packages so far and trail the traditional heavyweights by five points on the competition ladder. Samuel Jacobs’ side are neatly positioned in fourth place but have stumbled of late, winning just one of their last five encounters – a 3-0 triumph over lowly Rockdale in Round Five.

With the likes of Sydney Olympic, Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Sutherland lying just a point away from the Spartans in fourth, another poor result threatens to see the team slide out of the top six for the first time this season.

It will be a big test of the side’s credentials against a Blacktown City team who have rampaged back into top form, winning four of their last five to stand a

point behind leaders Manly United.

The clash will be influenced heavily by two potential golden boot candidates within either camp, with Blacktown Spartans’ Alex Mooy (seven goals in eight) and Blacktown City’s Jonathan Grozadanovski (six goals in six) facing off in what could be a crucial head to head match up in one of Round Nine’s big affairs.

GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL FRIDAY

FOOTBALL NSW

The initiative will give grassroots teams from all over New South Wales the chance to play their games at the Home of Football under lights and on a state-of the-art synthetic pitch.

And it’s all free of charge.

Football NSW Head of Communications, Facilities and Government Relations Ricardo Piccioni said the initiative was about providing the community with access to world class facilities.

“Grassroots Football Friday is a new initiative from Football NSW to give community players from across the state the chance to play under lights at the Home of Football,” he said

“We’re offering our state-of-the-art synthetic fields free of charge to all of our Associations on a Friday night, and encouraging them to schedule any of their grassroots matches at Valentine Sports Park.

“We want as many people as possible to experience playing at our fantastic facility, and hope to have men and women of all ages and abilities gracing our fields during 2016.”

Grassroots Football Friday kicked off last week with Putney Rangers anad Gladesville Ravens representing the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association All Age 8 competition.

Speaking before the match Putney Rangers club president Lina Candy said it was a massive coup for

the club and for all grassroots football to have the opportunity to play at Valentine Sports Park.

“For many of the players it will be the first time they have played on a world class synthetic pitch as well as at a major venue like Valentine sports Park,” she said.

“We jumped at the opportunity when we were approached by Gladesville Hornsby Football Association to reschedule this match to VSP. All the players are buzzing and can’t wait to play on Friday.

“This is a great idea from Football NSW and I know there is plenty of support around the clubs for this initiative.”

Gladesville Ravens director of Mens Football Ewen Page praised Football NSW for giving back to the associations which helped fund the development of Valentine Sports Park.

“The change rooms and the facilities at VSP will make the boys feel like they are a Hyundai A-League player for a night,” he said.

“The boys don’t often get to play under lights at All Age 8’s level so that too will be a great experience.

“Hopefully throughout the year more and more teams from the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association and other associations will get the chance to play at VSP too.”

Interested in playing at Valentine Sports Park? Clubs interested in taking part in Grassroots Football Fridays and playing a fixture at Valentine Sports Park FREE OF CHARGE this season should contact their local association.

FIRST GRADE ROUND 8

REVIEWS TEAM OF THE WEEK

Rockdale City Suns 3 - Blacktown City FC 2 at Ilinden Sports Centre

An 81st minute Hristijan Tanoski goal has given Rockdale City Suns an inspired 3-2 PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s victory against a fast finishing Blacktown City FC.

Tanoski’s late goal at Ilinden Sports Centre on Saturday night sent the Rockdale fans into raptures as Paul Reid’s side was required to find a winner after Blacktown had clawed it’s way back from an early 2-0 deficit.

Goals to Rockdale’s Tanoski, Dylan Macallister and Blake Ricciuto cancelled out strikes from Blacktown players Sasa Macura and Joey Gibbs.

It was an emotional win for the Suns who went into the match without usual starters Alec Urosevski and Steve Hesketh while midfielder Blake Ricciuto made an inspirational return after nearly a week in hospital.

Blacktown Spartans 1 - Manly United FC 1 at Blacktown Football Park

Manly United has fought back to snatch a 1-1 draw with Blacktown Spartans in its PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s Clash at Blacktown Football Park on Saturday.

Dom Ferguson’s 57th minute strike saved Manly from a frustrating away defeat after Jacob Ott gave the home side the lead after only five minutes.

It was a strong bounce back performance from Blacktown after leaking five goals to APIA last round.

On the other hand it was a frustrating result for Manly who paid the price for poor finishing.
