Subject Test

Subject Tests are hour-long, content-based tests that allow you to showcase achievement in specific subject areas where you excel. These are the only national admission tests where you choose the tests that best showcase your achievements and interests.

SAT Subject Tests allow you to differentiate yourself in the college admission process or send a strong message regarding your readiness to study specific majors or programs in college. In conjunction with your other admission credentials (your high school record, SAT scores, teacher recommendations, etc.), they provide a more complete picture of your academic background and interests.

Page 8: SAT . EQ: What do I need to know about SAT and ACT testing? Quick Write- Write down all you can remember about what you know.

Subject Test

Some colleges also use Subject Tests to place students into the appropriate courses. Based on your performance on the test(s), you could potentially fulfill basic requirements or receive credit for introductory-level courses.

There are 20 SAT Subject Tests in five general subject areas: English, history, languages, mathematics and science. Try the free practice questions or download the Getting Ready for the SAT Subject Tests practice booklet

Subject Test Example

If the physical sciences move you, try the Physics Subject Test. It measures your knowledge of the basic principles of physics and your ability to use these concepts to solve specific problems. If you're interested in pursuing science, technology, engineering, or math in college, taking this exam may help you stand out in the college admission process.

Subject Test Scoring

Scores are approximations rather than precise measures of skill. Student performance is best measured by score ranges. The score range offers a better picture of a student's skill than a single score. College admission officers ask that ranges be included in score reports and accept students with a wide range of test scores.

The raw score is converted to the College Board 200- to 800-point scaled score

Sending Scores To SchoolsHow to Send Your Scores during Registration

Everyone gets four free score sends with registration. When you use a waiver, you can also send four additional score reports (worth a total of $44) to the colleges of your choice at any time for free.

If you forget to list recipients, you may send scores to 4 schools for free after the 9 day grace period after your test date only if you used a fee waiver.

You can make updates to your score recipients for up to nine days after your test date. To make updates, log in to My SAT.

If you choose to send more than four or to send scores outside the registration grace period of 9 days, you will be charged $10.

If you miss the testing date you can change the registration test date for a fee of $25.

Scores Your official score report will be provided to you and your

high school, if you included the code, about five weeks after the test. Students who register online and wish to receive a paper score report by mail in addition to the online score report must request it when they register. Students who register by mail and who do not have active College Board online accounts will continue to

receive paper score reports.

How Score Choice™ Works

Select which scores you want to send to your score recipients

Score Choice gives you the option to choose which scores (by test date for the SAT and by individual test for SAT Subject Tests™) you send to colleges — in accordance with an institution's stated score-use practice.

If you decide not to use Score Choice, all of your scores will be sent to your recipients. Students should still feel comfortable sending all scores, since most colleges consider a student’s best score.

Page 19: SAT . EQ: What do I need to know about SAT and ACT testing? Quick Write- Write down all you can remember about what you know.

Score Reports and Score Sending

Sending official SAT score reports is the only way to ensure that colleges receive your scores.

Sending scores with your registration is the fastest way to send scores to colleges and scholarship programs.

Many colleges view receiving your scores early as a demonstration of your interest.

SAT Program recommends that students send all of their scores if they are unsure of which scores to send.
