Free Tonometry Test On Community Health Day

SATA CommHealth Uttamram Medical Centre at Chai Chee Street witnessed a buzz of activity on Sunday 24th

August. On that day, SATA CommHealth held its Community Health Day (CHD) at its premises to provide free health checks to needy elderly and the public. Basic health checks such as body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose, tonometry, cholesterol test, chest X-Ray were offered to the walk-in participants. Specialised services namely physiotherapy assessment, mammogram and vaccinations were also available during the event. Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC Mr Seah Kian Peng graced the event as Guest-of- Honour. He toured the medical centre and was given a brief on the medical equipment and services that were available at SATA CommHealth.

Mdm Seng Puay Hwang, aged 55, knew about the event from the advertisement in the newspapers and immediately called to book her mammogram appointment. “I thought it was a very good opportunity. It is affordable and convenient for me to go for a mammogram check at Chai Chee after reading about this event,” said the mother of three who stays in Bedok area. q

This event provided free basic health screening and highly subsidised specialised services such as mammogram and vaccinations to the public at this half-day event. In support of World Osteoporosis Day, SATA CommHealth offered osteoporosis assessment for men and women aged 45 and above at the event to recommend those who were eligible for a thorough screening before recommending a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) scan.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC, arrived at 9.30am as the Guest-Of-Honour for the event. He toured around the medical centre and mingled with residents present.

One of the participants who went for the health checks was retiree Mr Teng Gau Chin, aged 65. Mr Teng lives in Bukit Batok and was informed of the event through its Community Club. The former National Environment Agency employee said: “I am keen to check my health but most places are expensive.
