TO LEAD WANDERERSLOCAL JUNIORWhen the two sides walk out on to the pitch tonight keep an eye on the man at the front of the line for the Wanderers, it will be none other than Michael Beauchamp. You will see a man that will lead this club with great passion and pride, a man that will lead the way, a way that he knows the 10 men behind him will follow.
A fortnight ago, Beauchamp was named as the inaugural Club Captain of the NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers and will tonight officially lead out his fellow Wanderers for the first time.
The 31-year-old has shown leadership amongst the squad from his first day at the Wanderers and can’t wait for the match tonight.
“It is an honour, it’s an honour to lead any team you play for but for me it will be that little bit extra special knowing that I am representing the area I grew up in,” Beauchamp said. “There are a number of players in the squad that are experienced and have played a lot of football, so there will be a number of leaders out there each time we play.
“This is one of my career highlights, I’ve had a few but this is right up there.”
Coach Tony Popovic expressed his delight in having someone with Beauchamp’s experience in the squad.
“We all know Michael, he is someone that has played a lot of football, I have played with him, been to World Cups with him, I know how much of a leader he is,” Popovic said. “From the very first session where we had only six players he has shown the necessary qualities both on and off the pitch.”
“He has been a great support to the coaching staff and he is a great communicator amongst his fellow squad members.
“I know he will do a great job.”
The Wetherill Park Westerners and Southern Districts Marconi junior knows as much as anyone how momentous tonight’s match against the Central Coast Mariners will be.
“It’s a big occasion, it will be a special moment when we walk out and being at the front of the line I’ll get the first look at the Members and fans cheering for the Wanderers.
“I know the men behind me will embrace the moment as much as me, it will be a day to remember.”

It is the arrival that all Wanderers Members, Supporters and Partners have been waiting for, the arrival of Japanese superstar Shinji Ono.
SHINJI ONO,HE’S HERE!
SATURDAY, 6TH OCTOBER 2012 | ROUND 1 3
At 7am last Monday morning, a large contingent of Wanderers supporters joined the waiting media, who were eager for the arrival of the former Japanese International. When he finally came through the departure gates there was a definite excitement amongst all football fans.
“This is very surprising, very surprising,” Ono said. “They have a song for me already, it’s a very nice welcome.
“I want to give everything to the Wanderers, it’s a very exciting time and it will be good.”
The 33-year-old then made his way immediately to the Wanderers training base and after a short medical, Ono entered the training pitch for the first time in the red and black colours. After a short session that included light jogging and ball work, it was clear that he would add another dimension to the Wanderers.
At the official Hyundai A-League launch on Tuesday, Ono was a favourite amongst the media and junior footballers as he was introduced as part of the “big three” that will take part in the league this season. Ono joins both Italian Alessandro del Piero (Sydney FC) and Englishman Emile Heskey (Newcastle Jets) as marquee signings and he is well aware of the hype around the competition.
“I know already about both del Piero and Heskey, they are both great players,” he said. “I can’t wait to play against both of them but it will be good to come up against Sydney FC and Alessandro in round three here at Parramatta Stadium.”
Newly appointed Captain Michael Beauchamp is one man who has played with a number of talented players at all levels
but could sense a rise in intensity this week at training off the back of Ono’s arrival.
“Of course, we have had the incentive of the club’s first ever appearance in a Hyundai A-League match to use as motivation this week but having Shinji arrive has definitely added that extra spark to it,” Beauchamp said. “He’s one of those guys that we have all seen play and for us to now have him on our side will just add to what already is a very talented squad.
“I know I speak on behalf of all the squad when I say that we are looking forward to learning all we can from him and we can’t wait for him to settle into what we have already started building here and contributing to that.”
Ono, who has represented Japan on 56 occasions has not even been here for a week but already the hype around the Wanderers as a club has increased.
Before arriving in the country Ono had a number of discussions with Coach Tony Popovic who explained the desire for him to have someone with his experience as part of the squad.
“I spoke with the boss (Popovic) and he say to me that this is a new club, a young team and it would be good to have an experienced player to help with the mix in the squad.”
Known as “Tensai” which translates to “Genius” in his homeland of Japan, Ono had the last word when asked about his profile.
“I am not a big star, when I go to a new team I definitely want to give my all and fit in to what is already there. I am here to win.”

NIKOLAI TOPOR-STANLEY WANDERERS DEFENDER
MITCHELL DUKE MARINERS FORWARD
Nikolai Topor-Stanley will tonight line-up as part of a strong Wanderers defensive line that will look to continue with their strong pre-season form in the back third of the field.
The Wanderers have conceded only five goals throughout a 10 match pre-season and will be looking to continue that solid form in the Wanderers inaugural match in the Hyundai A-League.
Topor-Stanley will be one of the leaders in the defensive line and the 27-year-old has been leading by example both on the training pitch and in the pre-season matches rallying his fellow defenders to do their job.
After 132 matches in the Hyundai A-League Topor-Stanley will look to contain the Mariners’ Mitchell Duke as he looks to push forward tonight.
Being a tall figure at the back, Topor-Stanley is very vocal out on the pitch and tonight will be no different. He is a passionate player who will encourage his fellow squad members both this evening and throughout the season.
Forward Mitchell Duke is looking towards a breakout year in season 2012/13 and will be hopeful that he can start positively tonight here tonight against the Wanderers.
The 21-year-old has had a bumper pre-season scoring four goals in the Mariners seven pre-season matches.
‘Dukey’ as he is known as to his team-mates is one of the young brigade at the Mariners and packs plenty of pace and power into his lean frame. He will look to cause trouble up front against Nikolai Topor-Stanley and his fellow defenders by using that speed across the Parramatta Stadium pitch this evening.
The youngster was top scorer for the Mariners in the 2011/12 National Youth League competition, and made a cameo appearance off the bench for the Club against J-League giant Nagoya Grampus in the 2012 AFC Champions League.

Since day one the Wanderers have put the community at the forefront of everything they do and as we all attend the first ever Wanderers home match, the results from the community visits over the past three months are there for all to see.
Every style of event ranging from presentation days, grand final days, cultural events, gala days, school visits and expos all form part of a community program that the Wanderers have set-up since the club was launched only a few months ago.
In August and September alone, the Wanderers have attended 56 separate events with over 110 player appearances. In total the Wanderers have been in touch with over 107,000 people which stays true to their word that the community is of the utmost importance.
Local junior Kwabena Appiah-Kubi is someone who has enjoyed his time out in the community.
“It’s been great, we are obviously a new club and getting out there and letting people know who we are and what we are doing is definitely important,” he said. “This club is based around the community and we want each and every person to feel as though they are a part of this club.
“Seeing the kids’ faces when we are out there is a real treat. It hits home that we are role models and need to be leaders within the community.”
