Religious Education News & Updates “To be smart is an accident, to be beautiful is a cultural definition, but to be good is a choice.”

–Sr. Joan Chittister

Grade 3 Mass Will be next weekend at the 10:45 am Mass! They are so much fun on Tuesday afternoons, they run over from KCH full of life, love and laughter! They’ve been learning about prayer, the Sacraments, and the church. We encourage our students to think of others and as part of putting their faith into action, we ask them to bring in their good used children’s books which are then donated to inner-city agencies that minister to families. The students and their families will also participate in making sandwiches for the Oxford Inn after Mass today. They loved making the St. Paddy’s magnet for you, send up a prayer for that little child that made it for you. Thank you to the very dedicated catechists: Liz Raymond and Barb Fuller and to Gina Powell & Amy Locastro who escort the children to and from KCH. Appreciated so much is Amy Donahue who keeps track of everyone and makes sure everyone’s got what they need!

St. Baldricks

The Bald Mustangs (formerly known as the Bald Eagles) is a team of Marcellus sixth graders who are

having their heads shaved for the St. Baldrick’s foundation, to raise money to help eradicate

childhood cancer and to show solidarity and support for children who are fighting cancer. They have

participated in St. Baldrick’s for the past three years, most recently in honor of their classmate, Jack, who is battling leukemia, and the generous members of the St. Francis Xavier family have helped their team raise

over $18,000. They are shaving again this year in support of Jack in his continuing fight against cancer, at a St. Baldrick’s event at Driver Middle School on April 1st. The Mustangs will be accepting donations

after all Masses on March 25th and 26th. They will welcome any monetary donations, and are grateful for

all of your prayers for Jack. Thank you!

March 19, 2017 Third Sunday of Lent

“How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman,

for a drink?” —John 4:9

As we enter into the Third Sunday of Lent today’s readings focus on water and on God’s self-revelation

to seemingly unworthy people. Those who are in most need of help, who appear to be unworthy, are

those to whom life is given: the doubtful, the sinners, the impatient grumblers, the wanderers. We recognize our need for God’s grace and humbly open our hearts

toward this transforming love.
