SAUDI ARABIA
Saudi Arabia s the largest Arab state in Western Asia and the second-largest in the Arab world.
The cultural setting of Saudi Arabia is Arab and
Wahabi Islam, and features many elements from historical ritual and
folk culture such as dance and music.
CULTURE OF SAUDI ARABIA
One of Saudi Arabia's most compelling folk rituals is the Al Ardha, the country's national dance. This sword dance is based on ancient Bedouin traditions: drummers beat out a rhythm and a poet chants verses while sword-carrying men dance shoulder to shoulder.
MUSIC AND DANCE
The religion and customs of Saudi
Arabia dictate conservative dress for
both men and women.
DRESS
A man's headdress consists of three things: the tagia, a small white cap that keeps the gutra from slipping off the head.
MEN’S DRESS
WOMAN’S DRESSThey normally wear a voluminous black cloak called an abayah, a scarf covering her hair and a full face veil.
Food staples in Saudi Arabian cuisine include lamb, grilled chicken, falafel (deep-fried chickpea balls), shawarma (spit-cooked sliced lamb), mutabbaq and Ful medames. Arabic unleavened bread, or khubz is eaten with almost all meals, and is often used as an edible utensil to scoop foods.
FOOD
Soccer is an extremely popular sport in Saudi Arabia. Especially the Saudi Arabia national soccer team is considered one of the most successful national teams in Asia.
SPORT
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an Islamic theocratic monarchy in which Islam is the official religion; the law requires that all Saudi citizens be Muslims. Religious freedom is non-existent. Moreover, the public practice of non-Muslim religions is prohibited.
