A MESSAGE FROM FR. TIM

2

Dear Parishioner, “We are a Roman Catholic faith community. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we worship God the Father by imitating Jesus His son. Strengthened by the Eucharist and the proclamation of the Gospel, we strive to bring all people closer to God by evangelizing through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and lifelong faith formation.” This statement proclaims the tone with which we strive as a people of faith, with the guidance of the Spirit, to build “The City of God.” As we come together in liturgy we celebrate our heritage, the unconditional love of God, we are fed in Word and Sacrament and we are sent forth to live what we have celebrated. As we look to the needs of the community we initiate programs of spirituality, education and ser-vice to strengthen us in our resolve to be like Christ and continue his mission. Through your gen-erosity we have been able to expand our staff to reach out to areas that call for our attention. We have been able to hire a part time Finance and Operations Manager, a full time Youth Minister, and a part time Ministry Manager. The Ministry Manager was the last position filled. It is a rela-tively new position in the Archdiocese but one with great potential. The Ministry Manager over-sees and strengthens the existing ministries, and develops new ones. Presently Linda Riley, the Ministry Manager, is involved with the bereavement ministry, strengthening and expanding the out reach program, assisting in the formation of a young adult group, and looking into a support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren. With the leadership of the Youth Minister, Scott Morin, we are in the process of building a strong and vibrant youth group and with the leadership of Peter Culhane, the Finance and Operations Manager, our collaborative is operating more efficiently and with greater transparency. These ini-tiatives are undertaken to reach out to others as Christ would have us; witnessing to the ways of God as people looking for direction and healing. This report is presented to you to let you know where we stand and where we would like to be. Obviously we cannot build “The City of God” with out your help. We are asking you to prayerfully consider how you can best share your time treasure and talent. May God bless you and our efforts as we go about living his word and following his guidance. Sincerely in the Lord,

Rev. Timothy J. Kelleher

+ Youth Ministry seeks to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. + Youth Ministry seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and the work of the faith community. + Youth Ministry empowers young people to become disciples of Jesus Christ who witness to their faith by living and working for justice, peace, and human dignity.

Saugus Catholics Youth strives to promote quality programs, healthy relationships and functions for youth in grades 7-12. This inclusive ministry provides faith formation, social activities, retreats, and service projects as well as leadership training and mentoring. We offer many opportunities for our youth to grow within the Catholic community and with Jesus. Youth Ministry also supports and helps strengthens fami-lies through its comprehensive programs, services, and resources.

The Youth Ministry process happens when a variety of people, through a team approach, share with one another their stories and their lives. By doing so, they share the story of our Creator.

Saugus Catholics Youth is the response of our Christian community to the specific needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of the youth with the larger community. Youth Ministry in the Saugus Catholics Collaborative is relational, multidimensional, holistic, and people-centered. Adolescence is a significant time in the development of the human person. Our collaborative community has an important role in building assets in youth and assisting youth to successfully complete the developmental task particular to adolescence. The presence of young people at our parish is a sign of

hope and a great gift to us.

Saugus Catholics Collaborative Summary of Financial Results

Dear Parishioner, As our logo states, the Saugus Catholics Collaborative is made up of two unique parishes with one focus on our savior Jesus Christ. From a financial perspective however, it is important for you to know that both parishes maintain their own financial identity. All donations made to a parish remain within that parish and each parish is responsible for paying its own bills. Blessed Sacrament and Saint Margaret have their own finance councils advising Fr. Tim and keep separate financial statements. As the finance manager for the collaborative, I am pleased to report that due to the generosity of many parishioners at both parishes, our faith community is on solid financial ground as we continue into our fourth year together. On the next few pages is a summary of the recent financial results for both parishes of our collaborative as well as our plan for the current year. Our fiscal year runs from July 1

st to the following June 30

th, so our most recent year ended on June 30,

2017. The good news is offertory donations at both parishes increased from the previous year and came in above our financial plan for last year. Offertory donations at Blessed Sacrament were up by 3% from the previous year and were also above plan by 3%. Offertory donations at Saint Margaret rose by 4% from the previous year and were also 4% above plan as we assumed no increase in offertories at either parish. Saint Margaret also benefited from a new source of revenue last year as the Post Office is paying rent to the parish for the use of its parking lot. This helped total revenues increase by a little more than $20,000 or by 8%. Despite this increase in revenue at Saint Margaret, the parish still reported a net loss of $5,751 last year while Blessed Sacrament reported a net profit of $1,712. The primary reason for this result is the expense sharing formula for collaborative-level expenses which was 60% to Blessed Sacrament and 40% to Saint Margaret. Both finance councils reviewed this in July and a recommendation was made to change the for-mula to 65% Blessed Sacrament and 35% Saint Margaret. The rationale behind this change is the ability of each parish to pay its bills. Actual Offertory, Grand Annual and Rental income, the primary sources of revenue for a parish, totaled $404,351 last year at Blessed Sacrament and $218,889 at Saint Margaret. That is a 65%/35% breakdown exactly. This is the new formula that we are using for the current fiscal year. As for the other financial assumptions in the budget for the current fiscal year, once again we are assum-ing no increase in offertory donations and this year we are cutting our assumption for Grand Annual dona-tions by 10% at both parishes to better reflect historical averages. On the expense side, there are no changes to collaborative or parish staffing levels, however salaries and benefits expense will increase slightly as our new part-time ministry manager will be here for an entire year and not just two months in the previous fiscal year. Still, both parishes are expected to breakeven in the current fiscal year which ends next June 30, 2018. We are very excited about the year in front of us. We hope you join us as we continue to attempt to make our collaborative a strong, vibrant, warm and a welcoming spiritual home where all are welcome. Your Brother in Christ,

Peter Culhane Finance & Operations Manager Saugus Catholics Collaborative
