The Beginning (1976)
Apple has been created in 1976 by
Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak andRonald Wayne. They all left ATARIComputers to create their owncompany.
Apple's first headquarter was theJobs' parents garage where Jobsand his friends design their firstcomputer kit : the Apple I. It wasbox wood-made with a basic
motherboard inside.

The Beginning (1976)
Their business really starded whenJobs hada deal with Byte Shop, acomputer store which bought fiftyApple I. At this time, as Wozniack andWayne worked night and days toassemble the Apple 1, Jobs try to findmoney to pay the providers.
Then came the Apple II (with floppy diskdrive !) and a software called VisiCalcwich was Apple's "killer application" : aspreasheet program !

The early years (1979 to 1983)
Thanks to the succes of its softwareapplication, Apple Computer investedin a production line and a hiredseveral computer designers. They alsohad a deal with the Xerox PARC inPalo Alto, the computer R&D center inthe world at this time, to benefits itspatents and its scientist staff. In may1980 it unveils the Apple III tocompete IBM.
Due to this collaboration Appleintroduced the first computer with agraphical user interface in 1984 : Lisa
(Jobs' daughter).

Gates brought two former high school friends, Ric Weiland andMarc McDonald, to be part of the core Microsoft group.

The Graphical User Interface made Lisa real success.Ballmer hired Charles Simonyi, one of the original founders of the
Xerox Palo Alto research lab.Very soon, a small software company called Microsoft ships itsown GUI supported by every IBM compatible computers. IBM wasApple's main rival and it was dominating the market.
