Dear Delegate
This year’s EAAW will certainly refl ect the changing and uncertain nature of the maritime threat, as the defence community in all its guises, seeks to fi nd cost effective solutions and solve integration challenges.
There is no doubt that the advent of Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) has enabled electrical power to be harnessed for military effect in a highly networked environment. Technology development and platform design cannot prevail in isolation, and highly integrated systems are inevitable if affordable and adaptable solutions are to be exploited. The biennial EAAW series provides an acknowledged and exceptional opportunity for delegates and speakers from navies, commercial companies, governments and academia, to expose and explore these integration challenges.
EAAW V will build upon the success of the four previous events in the series, and provides a forum for information exchange, much needed analysis, debate and networking. It is again very pleasing to see the high level of global interest in EAAW, with papers received from many international contributors on a range of interesting topics grouped into four main Symposium themes: Future platform systems; Military effect; Complex system integration and Future combat systems.
The networking programme includes an informal BBQ the night before the Symposium, Monday 15 July and a Symposium Reception and Dinner on Tuesday 16 July at the unique Wills Hall Dining Hall, providing ample opportunity for discussion, both during the programme and of a more relaxed nature during the breaks and networking events.
On behalf of the Technical Advisory Committee and IMarEST, we look forward to welcoming you to EAAW V in July.
