World Surfing Reserves proactively identifies, designates and preserves outstanding waves, surf zones and their surrounding environments around the

world. The program serves as a global model for preserving wave breaks and their surrounding areas by recognizing the positive environmental, cultural, economic

and community benefits of surfing areas.

Using the academic framework of natural resource economics, Save The Waves conducts Surfonomics studies to demonstrate the value waves have to coastal economies. This helps improve coastal protection strong by providing policymakers with economic data in support of coastal protection.
