Business meetings can offer a
great opportunity for
employees to stand out in the
workplace, and this is
especially true in the case of
high-level strategic meetings.
If you want to make the very
best impression, however, it is
important that you observe
the commonly accepted but
often unspoken protocols that
surround them.
So next time you are invited to
either an internal or external
company meeting, bear in
mind the following:
1. Always be on time.
2. Make sure that you turn off
your cell phone completely –
vibrating alerts can still be
heard.
3. Whether or not you have a
spot on the agenda to make a
presentation, always ensure
that you are well-prepared.
4. Although playing an active
role in business meetings and
making your own contribution
is vital, always listen
attentively when others are
speaking. In this way your
responses will be relevant and
you will not embarrass
yourself by going over ground
that has already been covered.
5. Never speak over other
people, but if you do so
inadvertently, just offer a word
of apology and signal for the
original speaker to continue.
6. Remain seated throughout
the course of the meeting, and
approach the front of the
room only when invited to do
so by the chairperson.
7. Even if the discussion gets
rather heated, never lose your
cool and always show respect
for the other attendees.

Business Testimonials
Membership
I look at The Successful Entrepreneur membership as a chance to increase my
marketing exposure. I bought an affordable web site and mailing list to create my
database. It's a marketing tool that has increased exposure and interest in our
services. We wouldn't have gotten our new clients without it!

I joined a few months ago and I have been an extremely happy member throughout
that time. The Successful Entrepreneur has allowed me to network with other
successful people, make valuable business contacts, and get involved in this
community. The personal and professional growth I have made are due in large
part to them and I would strongly urge any businessperson who wants to grow to
become part of this organization!

EYE ON IT
As the economy picks up, so do
stories about businesses doing a bit
of social snooping on job
candidates. The latest flare-up
occurred with reports of
companies asking job applicants to
provide their Facebook passwords
— something the social network
frowns upon. “It isn’t clear whether
that’s really widespread or just a
couple of loud people saying it
happened, but it’s gotten people
fired up enough that at least a
couple of states have started
working on laws to ban employers
from doing that,” Howell says.
Federal legislation is in the works,
too.

Monthly Picks
Everyone is writing about the
latest craze in social
media: Pinterest. Last year it
was Groupon andLivingSocial and
all of the daily-deals sites,” Howell
says. “Now, it’s Pinterest.”
Lately, Groupon has been in the
headlines for its sagging stock
price. Is Pinterest destined for a
post-party hangover? Howell says
it’s tough to say, because the site
is so different from The Last Big
Thing. But she notes that
copyright issues could scare off
some small-business owners, even
though Pinterest recently revised
its terms of service. “They’re
going to have to ensure that
people feel safe using the service
and that people aren’t worried
they’re going to get sued for
pinning stuff on their boards,”
Howell says. “That’s a big thing for
small business — you really can’t
afford to get into a lawsuit.”

How to Select the Best Accountant?

government is in need of
their annual injection of
money or it will go through
withdrawal. Many of us hate
to pay the government
income taxes and need to
know: How do we do that?
There are many methods
one can use to find the best
a n d m o s t s k i l l f u l t a x
accountants available. The
first place is to call a local
chamber or ask another
businessperson you trust.
Many can look is on the
Internet search directories
like Yahoo and Switchboard
or through your local yellow
pages. If you are going to
use this method try and find
r e v i e w s o f t h e s e
accountants wh ich are
offered with many of the
online directories.
The best method is to get
referrals. Ask co-workers
and f r i e nds who t he i r
accountant is and how
much has that accountant
saved them. Ask them what
type of services they offer
and are they available
throughout the year. The
reason why referrals are
so beneficial is because
you get a review from
the people who have
tried their services.
Once you have obtained
a l ist of accountants
from friends or those
with high ratings from
the Internet then give

experience behind them.
That makes them worth
more because even if
you pay an extra $50
they may be able to
save you thousands.

following questions:
1.) Experience: Do they
have the experience that

personal finances?
2.) Charges: What do they
charge and what is covered
in the fees?
3.) Personnel: Who will
be doing your taxes?
4.) Services: Do they offer
year round accounting or
business services? Do they
do e-file? Will the offer
protection against audit?
Will they give you a loan on
your tax return?
