Erin Thurston is currently an Associate Attorney at Jones

Kelleher, LLP, in Boston. Interview conducted by SBA AcademicAffairs co-director Erin Knight.

What is your current position and where?Associate Attorney at Jones Kelleher, LLP, in Boston. We handle abroad spectrum of high-end catastrophic personal injury andmedical malpractice matters.

Where did you attend undergraduate?Boston College

What do you consider the best part of your job?The people. I work with some of the most experienced litigators intown, and their knowledge and experience is invaluable. Not onlythat, but they truly care about their clients well-being. Too often

lawyers get caught up in the business of law and lose sight of purpose of what we do, toachieve justice for the individual clients. At Jones Kelleher, the people are the priority.

What was your favorite class while at Suffolk?

LLC, Agency and Partnership with Professor Bishop.

Any interview tips?Be confident and prepared. I once interviewed someone, and when I asked what about thefirm and position attracted her to apply for the job, she stared at me blankly. Not a greatresponse! Research the firm, the people, the work they do, and their clientele. So much ofan interview rests on your ability to hold an intelligent conversation, listen actively, andyour sincerity.

    One piece of advice?

Network! Boston is a small community, so you will work with fellow attorneys on morethan one occasion. It is so important to build relationships with others, and not justattorneys, but their paralegals and law clerks, as well as clerks in the courts. Suffolk offersdiscounted memberships to the BBA, and there are student-friendly memberships to theMBA and Womens Bar Association. Take advantage, and follow the Golden Rule treatothers as you would like to be treated, and you will foster great working relationships allover town.
