S.C. 4-H Poultry Showmanship Dress for Success!!! Participants should wear collared shirt, jeans or slacks, closed toe shoes, belt, and NO extra accessories. Examples of clothing to avoid are: shorts, sandals or flip flops, hats, jewelry, or anything that would be considered distracting to either the judge or the bird. Judging is based on: Stage 1: Personal appearance of youth, carrying the bird, examining the bird Stage 2: Posing bird on table, quality and condition of bird, handling bird in and out of cage Stage 3: Walking bird on table and reposing Stage 4: Poise, speaking ability, knowledge Additional Tips: • Try to always maintain eye contact with the judge • Stay Calm, even if your bird does not • Only speak when asked to speak • Take your time. If you rush through the process you are more likely to make mistakes • Memorize the order of examination • The judge will prompt those in our Cloverbud or Novice divisions on what to do if needed • A walking stick will be provided at all shows. You do NOT need to bring your own.
