SC-ACIR Event1 March 2013
CME Event17 March 2013 SC-A SC-B
Enhancement of Inner Zone Electron Fluxes
Both eventscaused electron enhancements for <200 keV
What is the mechanism? Will CIRs alwayshave such penetration?
These are background corrected
No electrons >800 keV !
Enhancement of Slot Region Electron Fluxes
CIR Event1 March 2013
CME Event17 March 2013
Electrons enhanced at all L* for ≤300 keV and enhanced at higher L* for >300 keV
No electrons > 1 MeV !
Electrons enhanced for <200 keV at lowest L* and up to 400 keV at higher L*
Will Use CIR Observations From CY24 Declining Phase to Characterize Low L* Differences Between CIR and CME Responses
• We have observed CME related enhancements of electrons in the slot region and deep in the inner zone in multiple events previously
• We have an observation of such enhancements by a CIR• Are such enhancements common for CIRs? • This we can learn as we move towards solar minimum where CIRs
will be the primary driver of radiation belt enhancements– Will we find a fundamental difference between CIR and CME related
electron enhancements at these lower L* regions?– Are these enhancements “injections” or other?
