About this Operation GuideThis Operation Guide is meant to be read when using Scan to Mac and TWAIN for Mac to store scan data to a Macintosh computer. This Operation Guide explains the procedures of installation and uninstallation and the basic operation method of each utility.

Since the settings may vary depending on the environment of the Macintosh computer to be connected, read the necessary sections for proper setting.

This Operation Guide should also be read and used together with the Functions Edition of the appropriate Operation Guide (On-Line Manual) that is on the included Kyocera Document Library CD-ROM. The Functions Edition of the Operation Guide (On-Line Manual) explains how to scan and various setting methods.

Important:The use of scanned legally copyrighted materials, such as documents, musical scores, pictures, woodblock prints, maps, drawings and photographs, for any intent other than your own personal or home use, or other such purpose, is prohibited under the copyright law without prior permission from the legal copyright owner.

Simply scanning the following items may result in legal penalty:

Bank notes, coins, government-issue securities, national bonds, local bonds, foreign currencies and securities, unused postage stamps, government post cards, government stamps, and securities regulated by the liquor tax law.

Other items that you should also not scan:

It is additionally recommended that you do not attempt to scan government-issue passports, or licenses, permits, ID cards, securities, commuter tickets, passes, books of tickets and meal coupons issued by public organizations or private parties.

Getting connectedFor scanning with each utility, the following procedure is needed.

Connect the scanner to a Macintosh computer

<Example connection>

Hub Connect the scanner to the Macintosh computer through a network cable (100BASE-TX or 10BASE-T).

Scan to Mac: Refer to Installing Scan to Mac on page 1.Saves the scanned image as a data file on your computer.

TWAIN for Mac: Refer to Installing TWAIN for Mac on page 5.Captures the picture image to a TWAIN-compatible application.

1 Scan to Mac

Outline of Scan to MacScan to Mac is a utility that allows an image captured with the scanner to be received on a Macintosh computer and to be stored in a specified folder.

To use this utility, you must set the destination on the scanner. For details, refer to the Set up Edition of the Operation Guide for the scanner.

Installation and uninstallation

Installing Scan to MacPerform the following procedure to install Scan to Mac.

1 Start Macintosh. Close any applications that are running.

2 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the optical drive.

3 Double-click the CD-ROM icon.

4 Open the [ScanToMac] folder.

5 Double-click [Scan to Mac for OS9] or [Scan to Mac OS X] according to your Mac OS.

If the operating system is Mac OS 10.1 or later, the authentication screen is displayed. Enter the administrator name and password and click [OK].

6 The description concerning the license agreement is displayed. To accept the terms and conditions, click [Accept].

7 Click [Install].

Installation of Scan to Mac starts. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen to install Scan to Mac.

Scan to Mac

Uninstalling Scan to MacPerform the following procedure to uninstall Scan to Mac.

1 Start Macintosh. Close any applications that are running.

2 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the optical drive.

3 Double-click the CD-ROM icon.

4 Open the [ScanToMac] folder.

5 Double-click [Scan to Mac for OS9] or [Scan to Mac OS X] according to your Mac OS.

If the operating system is Mac OS 10.1 or later, the authentication screen is displayed. Enter the administrator name and password and click [OK].

6 The description concerning the license agreement is displayed. To accept the terms and conditions, click [Accept].

7 Select [Uninstall] from the pull-down menu at the upper left and click [Uninstall].

Uninstallation of Scan to Mac starts. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen to uninstall Scan to Mac.

Setting the folderSet the folder in which images sent from the scanner are stored. Use the following method to open the main dialog for setting the folder.

For Mac OS 10.1 or later

Open the [Application]/[Utilities] folder and double-click [KM Scan to Mac].

For Mac OS 9.1 to 9.22

Open the [Kyocera Scan to Mac] folder on the desktop and double-click [KM Scan to Mac].

Main dialogThis section explains the main dialog for Scan to Mac.

For Mac OS 10.1 or later

1 Connection status: Displays the status of the scanner.

2 Image files: Displays the status of reception of image.

3 List: Click to display the list of received images.

4 Show preferences: Click to switch display/non-display of the setting fields for [Destination Folders] and [File name prefix].

5 Destination Folders: Displays folders in which images are stored as a list.

6 Add: Click to add a destination folder for storing images. The folder number, folder location, and password can be set.

7 Edit: Click to change the setting for a destination folder.

8 Delete: Click to delete a destination folder.

9 File name prefix: Set the storage name of an image here. If [Scanner default] is input, the file name that has been set on the scanner is used.

10 Apply: Click to apply the changed data.

11 Quit: Click to terminate this dialog.

Scan to Mac

For Mac OS 9.1 to 9.22

1 Connection status: Displays the status of the scanner.

2 Image Files: Displays the status of reception of image.

4 Show/Hide preferences: Click to switch display/non-display of the setting fields for [Destination folders], [TIFF application] and [File name prefix].

9 TIFF application: Click [Browse] to specify an application for opening the images stored in the TIFF format.

Note The image file format is set on the scanner when the image is scanned.

10 File name prefix: Set the storage name of an image here. If [Scanner default] is input, the file name that has been set on the scanner is used.

11 Apply: Click to apply the changed data.

12 Quit: Click to terminate this dialog.

Operating Scan to MacSet a Macintosh computer and folder as destination on the scanner and scan the original. For details, refer to the Set up Edition of the Operation Guide for the scanner.

2 TWAIN for Mac

Outline of TWAIN for MacTWAIN for Mac is a utility that allows scanning from a TWAIN-compatible application and image capture with easy operation.

TWAIN for Mac can be used on Mac OS 10.1 or later. Also, a TWAIN-compatible application must be installed.

Installation and uninstallation

Installing TWAIN for MacPerform the following procedure to install TWAIN for Mac.

1 Start Macintosh. Close any applications that are running.

2 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the optical drive.

3 Double-click the CD-ROM icon.

4 Open the [TWAINforMac] folder.

5 Double-click [TWAIN for Mac OS X].

6 The authentication screen is displayed. Enter the administrator name and password and click [OK].

7 The description concerning the license agreement is displayed. To accept the terms and conditions, click [Accept].

8 Click [Install].

Installation of TWAIN for Mac starts. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen to install TWAIN for Mac.

9 After the installation is complete, set the scanner. Click [Configure] to open [System Preference]. For the method of setting, refer to Setting the scanner on page 7.

TWAIN for Mac

Uninstalling TWAIN for MacPerform the following procedure to uninstall TWAIN for Mac.

1 Start Macintosh. Close any applications that are running.

2 Insert the supplied CD-ROM into the optical drive.

3 Double-click the CD-ROM icon.

4 Open the [TWAINforMac] folder.

5 Double-click [TWAIN for Mac OS X].

6 The authentication screen is displayed. Enter the administrator name and password and click [OK].

TWAIN for Mac

Setting the scannerSet the scanner to be operated from a TWAIN-compatible application. Double-click [Kyocera Scanners] in [System Preference] to open the scanner dialog.

Scanner dialogThis section explains the scanner dialog.

1 Devices: The names, models, and IP addresses of scanners that have been set are displayed as a list.

2 Add: Click to add a scanner. The name, model, and IP address of the scanner can be set. Also, the department management can be set if necessary. For details of the department management, refer to the Oepration Guide for the machine.

3 Edit: Click to change the setting for a scanner.

4 Delete: Click to delete a scanner.

5 Make default: Click to select the scanner to be used when multiple scanners are set. The scanner selected here can be operated from a TWAIN-compatible application.

Operating TWAIN for MacThe methods of using a TWAIN-compatible application to capture an image from the scanner are roughly classified into two types. Perform scanning according to the situation of operation.

For starting operation from the scanner

1 Set the TWAIN mode on the scanner and set the original. For details, refer to the operation guide for the scanner.

2 Start TWAIN for Mac from a TWAIN-compatible application.

3 Refer to Main dialog on page 8 to perform the setting for scanning.

4 Click the [Start] button. Scanning starts and the image data is sent to the Macintosh computer.

TWAIN for Mac

For starting operation from the Macintosh computer

1 Start TWAIN for Mac from a TWAIN-compatible application.

2 Perform the setting for scanning referring to Main dialog described below.

3 Check [Wait for user interaction at scanner] and click the [Start] button.

4 Set the TWAIN mode on the scanner and set the original. For details, refer to the Set up Edition of the Operation Guide for the scanner.

5 Press the [Start] key on the scanner. Scanning starts and the image data is sent to the Macintosh computer.

Main dialogThis section explains the main dialog for TWAIN for Mac.

1 Size: Select the original size for scanning here.

2 Resolution: Select the resolution for scanning the original here.

3 Quality: Select the image quality according to the original here. This item can be set only if [Black and White] has been selected at [Mode].

4 Mode (color scanner only): Select [Color] or [Black and White] as the color mode here.

5 Brightness: Select the density for scanning the original here.

6 Orientation: Set the orientation of the original to be scanned here.

7 Preferences: Set the method of scanning and use of a two-sided original here.

8 Status: Displays the status of the scanner.

9 Start button: Click to start scanning.

10 Help: Click to display the help screen.

11 Defaults: Click to return all the settings in the main dialog to their default values.

12 Close: Click to close the main dialog.
