TEACHERDEVOTIONALRead:John4:1-39Jesusknewthepartsofthiswomanthatwerehidingintheshadows.Heknewaboutherfiveex-husbandsandthemanbackinherbedwhowasnotherhusband.Heknewherdarkness,andingraceandtruth,heinvitedhertobringittothelight.Jesuswasintentionalinhisconversationwiththiswoman.Hewasgentleandfirm,leadinghertowardstruth,butalsolettingherdiscoverthetruthonherown.Heletheraskhimmorequestions.Shegottoknowhim,andshesoonrealizedthatJesusalreadyknewher.Sheunderstoodthathemust’vebeentheMessiahshehadheardsomuchabout.TheOnewhowascomingtorescuewasallofasuddenrightthere;talkingwithher.“Iwhospeaktoyouamhe,”John4:26.InteractingwithJesusandlisteningtohistruthchangedthiswoman.Itshatteredhershame.SheacceptedthelifeandfreedomthatJesusofferedher,andthensheranofftotellthewholetownaboutthegoodnessandtruthshemetinJesus.John4:39tellsusthat“manySamaritansfromthattownbelievedinJesusthatdaybecauseofthewoman’stestimony.”Herstorywaspowerful.Thisstoryremindsusthatthepainful,broken,andmostshamefulpiecesofourlivesarepowerfulstatementsofJesus’loveforuswhenweallowhimtobringthemtolightwithhistruthandthenchangeuswithhisgrace.Isthereatimeinyourlifewhenyoufelttruthpullyoutowardssomethingbetter?Maybeyouhadtomakeadifficultdecisionorturnawayfromsomethingthatwasn’tgood.Howdidyourespond?SharingourstoryandinvitingpeopletoseewhatJesusisreallylikeiscalledevangelism.Doyoushareyourstory?Doyoubelieveyourstoryhaspower?DoyoutellotherswhatJesusisreallylike?
