Dear Families and Friends,

Our school has a long history and traditions that bring generations of parishioners together over and over through the years. It is this rejoining that keeps our school strong, our members close, and our community growing. We have experienced several events this spring that intertwined our generations and gave us cause to celebrate our relationships with each other.

Christ the King students, faculty, administration, and guests gathered in the Bird and Butterfly Garden to honor two special ladies on a gorgeous April morning. Parishioners Joseph and Joanne Staler commissioned and donated a bronze statue of St. Francis of Assisi in honor of Joe’s mother, Jayne Frances Staler, and former principal Alice Valiquette. Father Dexter dedicated and blessed the serene figure after a school Mass, then our guests mingled afterward at a reception in the Parish Hall lobby. Alumnus Jay Staler was present to reunite with his former principal and teachers. It was a grand way for the Stalers to recognize the honorees, make a gift to the parish, and bring the generations together.

The First Communion class joined their PREP classmates for a lovely celebration of the Sacrament of Eucharist on April 28. Later that same week our 8th graders were confirmed by Bishop Choby at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Both sacramental celebrations were holy gatherings of parents, grandparents, godparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, siblings, and friends, reuniting in support of our youth.

I had the privilege to recognize many top CKS scholars at the annual Academic Banquet in May. Naming the Honor Roll and Principals List students for the year and announcing scholarship recipients is a gratifying role. However, one of my finest moments had to be presenting the Excellence in Teaching Award to seventh grade teacher, Gina St. Charles, who was my seventh grade student at CKS many years ago. I couldn’t have been prouder!

These and many other school traditions keep our community coming together to recognize, love, and support one another time after time, year after year. Many of you show the same positive regard and support for CKS each year through participation in Annual Giving, which enables these events and traditions to continue for future generations. I am so thankful to all of you, families and friends, for the solidarity that enables our school and students to thrive and flourish.

Academic Banquet Night celebrated many student achieve-ments in academics. The Teacher Award of Excellence was awarded this year to Gina Ragghianti St. Charles, 7th Grade Teacher. The award is given based on votes of fellow teachers for excellence in teaching. Gina is also mom to Kendall, rising 4th grade, Mia, rising PreK, and to Aaron, born in March. Student News: In the spirit of recent events in the news and the focus on safety, Officer Lewis (dad of Max in Kindergarten), came by to show some police equipment to the kindergarten class that helps to keep police officers safe in the line of duty. The class was thrilled to see the robot-ics and to use the electronic equipment them-selves to “make an announcement” to the rest of the class.

MATHLETESOn Wednesday, March 13, eight students from our school competed at the annual Father Ryan Math Day. The students spent their afternoon competing against students from all the schools in our Diocese. At the end of the day, Christ the King brought home a Fourth Place plaque! The mathletes were: 6th grade - Seamus O’Connell, Elizabeth Wehby; 7th grade - Jeanne Meyer, Rachel Phan; 8th grade - Joseph O’Connell, Re-gan Rosinski; 8th grade Algebra - Anna Fred-ericks, Hope Long. Joseph O’Connell placed 2nd in both 8th Grade Fundamentals and Word Problems. Congratulations to all our mathletes for a job well done. You represented our school well!

AUTHORINOURMIDSTOur beloved art teacher, Ms. Jessica Young, has a chil-dren’s book being launched on August 6, with a book launch party on August 13, 6:30p at Parnassus Books. Mark your calendars! My Blue Is Happy chronicles a girl’s journey through the neighborhood discovering what colors mean to different people. We are so proud of Jessica and wish her much success with her book. We are fortunate that she is making plans for presenta-tions to students and teachers about her writing and that our commu-nity can benefit from her talent and experience.
