Otaku Festival 2014:Cosplay Edition
In its eight year of existence, Otaku Festival is celebrating the fascinating phenomenon of cosplay through a special edition entirely dedicated to this art. So we wish you a very warm welcome to Otaku Festival Cosplay Edition!
As in each and every Otaku Festival starting with 2006 and until now, we have prepared a fair share of surprises, which you will find detailed in the following pages. Not only cosplay, but also workshops, panels, exhibitions, gaming, and many other activities which we hope that will keep you within the premises of the Romanian-American University throughout two entire days.
Of course, because we are dealing with a cosplay edition, the creative engine behind the event is Cosplay Gen, currently acknowledged as one of the best cosplay magazines worldwide, which, with the precious support of its friends, tried hard to bring you the best cosplay experience, bringing forth an exquisite range of guests: Reika and Kaname from Japan, Pugoffka from Ukraine, Miyo from South Korea, Lina Lau from Hong Kong/UK, and Peggy from Singapore.
So keep this little booklet with you to guide you through all the activities and enjoy the festival!

OTAKU GARAGE SALEDo you have certain objects that until recently were part of your otaku life, but which you’d like to sell, change, replace or get rid of? Or, on the contrary, you’d like to buy one of these things, but you’d rather pay less, as it’s not important for you if that item is second hand? Otaku Garage Sale is the perfect place for you! We are welcoming at Otaku Festival 2014 all those who want to sell their otaku-related items or want to exchange or buy them. The only rule is that the items you are coming with are genuine.
COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION We have also prepared a cosplay photography exhibition featuring the six special guests invited at this edition: Reika, Kaname, Pugoffka, Miyo, Lina Lau and Peggy, along with photos of other talented cosplayers featured in previous issues of Cosplay Gen magazine.
MAREA DEZBATERE OTAKU (ROMANIAN ONLY)
This year we offer you the opportunity to watch a heated debate on very carefully chosen themes related to otaku culture. Come and support your team in the semifinals and the finals and help decide who the great winner will be!
COSPLAY PARADEWe always appreciate the hard work any cosplayer puts into costume making or into simply dressing up as the favorite character. So for this edition we also offer the stage for all the cosplayers who want to show off their outfits to the audience without participating into the cosplay competition. So don’t lose the opportunity to admire them on stage!
OTAKU FESTIVAL AWARDSThis year, we decided to reward your talent, creativity and effort and inaugurate a series of „Otaku Awards”, for which we have been working in collaboration with the CultCat artists team. Those who will be considered the most outstanding in a certain activity of the festival, be it cosplay, AMV editing, illustration, or manga drawing, will receive the Otaku Trophy. Don’t miss the award ceremony in the second day of the festival!
SIGNING SESSION WITH THE SPECIAL GUESTSAt Otaku Festival Cosplay Edition, the fans will also have the opportunity to take part in a signing session with our special guests: Reika, Kaname, Miyo, Pugoffka, Lina Lau and Peggy. So, if you want to take part in this signing session, pay a visit to the festival’s booth and purchase the cosplay cards of our guests, or even Reika’s photo albums in limited edition, on which to get your autograph!

GUESTS
REIKA (JP)One of the most renowned cosplayers worldwide, REIKA from Japan gained a well-deserved reputation and an equally well-deserved fanbase, as the professionalism of her costumes and the talent with which she plays as her chosen characters are hard to match. Constantly invited as a guest at important conventions and festivals in all Asia, REIKA made her first visit to Europe as a special guest at Otaku Festival 2013, where her presence attracted a very big number of cosplay fans. We are happy to have her here again for the 2014 edition, as a jury member for the cosplay competitions and not only!
PUGOFFKA (UA)Already known in the cosplay fandom for her very expressive photos and having gained experience not only behind, but also in front of the camera, Pugoffka will be part of the jury for the cosplay competitions and she will also share tips & tricks about cosplay photography with all those who are interested. A big fan of Asian culture, she is now a co-organizer and official photographer of one of the biggest cosplay conventions in Ukraine taking place in Kiev – OTOBE.
KANAME (JP)Along with REIKA, KANAME from Japan is among the most well-known names for the cosplay fans from around the world. His cosplays are defined by a huge attention to details, both costume-wise, as well as in regard to make-up, look and posing. His characters are very diverse, a proof of his versatility as a cosplay artist. As the cover story for Cosplay GEN #04, he revealed a bit about what cosplay means to him and how he got popular in the world of cosplay. And we are much honored to have him here, at Otaku Festival 2014, as a special guest!

MIYO (KR)Participating for the first time at a European convention, MiYo, who was also the cover story for Cosplay GEN #03, will give the Otaku Festival audience the chance to closely admire her talent in cosplay costume making. Approaching many different characters, from World of Warcraft’s Whitemane to Vocaloid, MiYo doesn’t cease to amaze through the accuracy of the details and of her cosplays as a whole.
PEGGY (SG)We are happy to have among us as special guest Peggy from Singapore, whose presence surely represents a good opportunity for the Romanian cosplayers to find out more about the amazing cosplay scene in Singapore and about the way she makes her very different costumes, which cover various movies and series, from Howl’s Moving Castle to Kill la Kill.
LINA LAU (HK / UK)A very talented and experienced cosplayer, Lina, who is at her second visit in Romania after being invited as special guest at Nijikon 2012, is for sure a perfect presence for a festival edition dedicated to cosplay, as a jury member for the cosplay competitions.
