ObjectiveThis presentation:
● Explains how scholarships may be funded from a nation’s ‘Official
Development Assistance’ (ODA) or foreign aid budget
● Lists the 30 countries that offer ODA scholarships and provides the web
addresses of their aid and/or scholarship program website
● Details examples of other countries that offer foreign aid scholarships
● Explains why ODA funded scholarships and aid funded scholarships are
among the most generous and desirable scholarships on offer
● Suggest database key search words for scholarship seekers.
Scholarships searches and applications● Scholarship searches can be a slow process.
● There is no single website that lists all scholarships on offer.
● At least two official government administered or endorsed/sponsored
websites are listed for each nation in this presentation.
● The website examples provided are current at 19 January 2017.
● You should develop your own online database search skills so that you can
find updated and new official scholarship webpages.

Official Development AssistanceThe noun “Official Development Assistance” (ODA) may be a useful
search phrase to add to your online scholarship searches. ‘ODA’ is the
official term for what is commonly known as ‘foreign aid’ - money paid from
a developed country to a developing country to aid the poorer nation.

Why are ODA scholarships so desirable?Official Development Assistance (ODA) Scholarships are among the most
generous scholarships on offer globally.
The annual budget of most nation’s ODA totals in the billions of dollars ($USD).
Scholarships account for between 1% to 10% of most nation’s ODA budget.

Am I eligible to apply?
You will only be eligible to receive an ODA scholarship if you meet all criteria
specified by the ODA donor. This will normally require you to be a citizen
and/or a lawful permanent resident of the recipient country.
You will only be eligible if your country is currently a recipient donor of ODA
money used to fund scholarships from the sponsoring country.

Reminder: In most cases, you will only be eligible for an Official Development
Assistance scholarship if you are a citizen and/or lawful resident from an
eligible country, as defined by the aid donor.
