1.2. School Mission The School is managed under Po Leung Kuk’s school system. Owing to the uniqueness of our teaching and learning environment, the school preserves its own curriculum and teaching methodology. The mission of the School is to provide a quality education that develops confident children. We are now running the school under the Direct Subsidy Scheme for the fifth year. With better resources, we aim to offer an excellent learning environment and ideal facilities to enhance effective and enjoyable learning, and new initiatives will be adopted to enhance learning and teaching. We provide various learning experience and opportunities to encourage our children to develop their potential.

1.3. School Motto Love, Respect, Diligence, Integrity; Grasp Principles, Cultivate Virtue.

2. SWOT Analysis

2.1. Our Strengths Most teachers are young and energetic, they are more creative in teaching methods. High Teacher to Students ratio especially NETs. EMI school, rich Language Environment. Students are strong in spoken English. Flexible in curriculum/lesson design. Application of P1 is increasing. Our tuition fee is comparatively lower than other DSS in our district.

PLK HKTA YUENYUEN PRIMARY SCHOOL

1011 School Annual Report 4

2.2. Our Weaknesses

The school is new and staffs are mostly young with limited teaching experience. School facilities are too old and the school size is too small. No connecting secondary school. We have lack of remedial classes for lower class students. Students’ discipline is not strong. Students are weak in writing in both English and Chinese. Administration is quite inefficient. High turn over rate of teachers.

2.3. Our Opportunities

Being a DSS school allows for flexibility of curricula. School facilities will be improved (e.g. swimming pool is under planning). More equipment will be installed (e.g. interactive white boards) Continue to improve curriculum. Possibility of ‘Through train” linkage: Kindergarten –YYPS—secondary. Possibility of ‘Through train” linkage: Kindergarten –YYPS—secondary. More linkage between secondary school and primary school. We provide Native speakers for languages.

2.4. Our Threats

Without having a direct link or access to a local English DSS secondary school which we be a feeder to, students face competition.

There is a new DSS through train school in Yuen Long. Termites attack is found in our school. English is used for teaching Mathematics. Results of TSA might not be as good as some other schools. Teachers are contract-based and the mobility is high. Changing of administrative staff causes an unstable administrative process. Parents’ impression of low administrative standard in school.
