l Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you were able to spend time in the sunshine and enjoy some
relaxed family time over the long weekend. Our teachers are very busy
completing reports at the moment so the holiday Monday was much
appreciated by them.
Last Wednesday we held our P&C meeting for the term. It was lovely to
meet Mrs Raelene Redfern, our new Principal, at this well attended
meeting.
Our students and staff are blessed to have such an active, supportive and
caring P&C. With the funds raised from the tremendously successful Colour
Run and profits from the canteen, the P&C were able to provide $8,900 for
Ipads and technology resources. These will be used to support class
learning across all key learning areas, especially digital technology skills
such as coding which is a requirement of the new NSW Science and
Technology syllabus.
The P&C were also able to generously provide an additional $4,600 for the
purchase of books to support the explicit teaching of reading and literacy
studies across the whole school. The teachers are most appreciative of
these wonderful resources.
The debating team is busy practising for our round robin Debating Day
next Tuesday at Figtree Public where they will compete in two debates.
We wish them well in this exciting venture.
EMERGENCY ‘LOCK DOWN’ PRACTICE
Next week we will be holding a practice emergency ‘Lock Down’
procedure. You may wish to speak to your child about this so that they are
not overly alarmed.
‘FATHERING PROJECT’ DAY AT FIGTREE HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOL
Calling all dads, grandfathers and father figures - please put the afternoon
(from 1:30pm) of Thursday, 20th June in your diaries to spend with your
child/ren enjoying an afternoon snack and playing board games.
SPELLING BEE
There’s a buzz in the air as many of our students focus intently on practising
for our Figtree Heights Spelling Bee Competition. The finals will be held on
Thursday, June 27th. Stage 2 will begin at 9am and Stage 3 will be held at
12pm. Family and loved ones are most welcome to attend.
2020 KINDERGARTEN
If you know of any family in our local area who have a child starting
Kindergarten in 2020, please encourage them to contact the school and
leave their details. Our classes in 2020 depend on our Kindergarten
numbers and the earlier we can finalise these numbers the better. Thank
you in advance.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
Kind regards,
Dee
Superstar Student

FIGGY HEIGHTS FATHERING TIPS Teaching Independence
This week, we are looking at teaching your kids independence. Try our tips:
Encourage your kids to make decisions; on what activity to do on the weekend,
what to help make for dinner, what holidays to go on.
Give your kids responsibilities around the house and hold them accountable.
Ask for your child’s opinion when making family decisions. Take what they have to
say seriously.
Teach them not to take things for granted; a good method with this is getting them
to create a savings plan to pay for part of something they want.
