Why I wanted to become a School Counselor…• I liked being an English teacher, but I started to see that I was helping students with issues that had nothing to do with English!
• I recognized that my School Counselor didn’t do enough to help me choose a college!
• I wanted to advocate for students who thought they wouldn’t be able to attend college (ex. Financial issues; Academic Weaknesses)
What does a School Counselor do?• Help students with academic/personal problems
• Provide individual and group counseling
• Assist students with scheduling/ choosing of courses
• Discuss post-secondary plans and career exploration
• Serve as a mediator
