Principal’s Message:

One of my favourite things to do is drop in on daily primary choir. These grade 1-3 students

begin their day singing, tapping and dancing. It is a joy to watch and even more fun to sing

along.

Hip Hop Dance Lessons

– Week of February 9-12

Kick it Up at Notch Dance Academy is returning to Noel Booth for four high-energy days of

dance instruction. Students will each have four dance classes in the week of February 9-12. We

will end the week with an assembly to feature all of the classes and the moves they have

learned. Thanks to our PAC for sponsoring this very popular initiative. Parents are welcome to

come and see the show at 1:30 on Friday, February 12.

Mr. Palfreyman is also going to share some prize winning photographs from the intermediate

photography contest.

PAC Meeting All welcome

-Tuesday, February 16 @ 7pm

Metis Dance

- Wednesday, February 17 Mrs. Hart, our Aboriginal support worker, has arranged for Metis dancers to spend a day

sharing their style of dance and its cultural significance and history. Classes will each have

turns to do workshops in the gym with the dancers.

Brookswood Parent Night for Next Year’s Gr. 8 Students

– Wednesday, February 24 @ 7:00 pm

It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to start thinking about high school for our grade

sevens. Scheduling at the secondary level requires a great deal of time and attention. They

want to help you and your child to make the best choices for a successful start. Please make

time to go and hear about all the possibilities and how to best prepare.

Pink Shirt Day

– Wednesday, Feb. 24

Pink Shirt Day has become a tradition in Canada and in many other countries. Students are

invited, but certainly not required, to wear pink to show their commitment to treat each other

with kindness and respect and to stand up to bullying. Staff and parents work on these concepts

all year long, not just one day a year. We will have an assembly at 1:30 on February 24 to

celebrate the diversity of talents and strengths of our students. We will also highlight some

strategies that students can use to recognize and deal with bullying when it happens.

Parents are welcome to attend.

Music News Band-

Monday, February 29 at 7:00pm is the feeder school concert at Brookswood Secondary School.

All band students are expected to do their best to attend. This is a great way to get acquainted

with the high school. It is also an important community building event for Noel Booth.

Ukulele and Band-

Please encourage your child to bring home their instrument and music daily and then to

remember to bring it back to school on music days.

Please encourage your kids to practice a little bit every day. The ideal practice time would be

how ever long it takes to play properly through the warm up routine as well as any songs that

the students have memorized or have music for.

What should students practice? Band classes have a warm up routine on page 18 and 30 in their

band books. Mrs. Furuya’s class plays the D Major, G Major and the E harmonic Minor scale 4

times on each note, 3 times on each note, 2 times on each note, and once on each note. In

addition students should practice any songs that they have memorized in class or which they

have sheet music for.

Sexual Health Education

Teaching children about their changing bodies and sexual health has been part of the

curriculum for decades. There are many teaching resources available to us to teach

students the required learning outcomes. Our PAC members believe that this is important

learning and have, once again, sponsored the cost of bringing Saleema Noon to our

school to support us.

encourage parents to attend the parent evening to hear what will be presented to

kindergarten to grade seven students.

COMMUNITY NEWS

Langley International Film Festival - February 19, 20, 21 at Chief Sepass Theatre LIFF (Langley International Film Festival) update. Tickets are selling fast, but there are lots of spots left and

we need your help in getting the word out. Please share on Facebook, blogs, newsletters and twitter. Distribute the attached poster with impunity and talk about it everywhere you go, affording it the kind of

awesome prominence that you would if an asteroid landed in your backyard. The more people who attend, the more money there is to support arts and film programs for Langley students. I've attached the press release

and poster.

The Langley International Film Festival has much to offer to Langley students. On Saturday, February 20th at 8:00pm, LIFF presents a Montage of Student-Produced Films, giving students from Brookswood, RE Mountain and Langley Fine Arts the opportunity to present their films to an audience of 300 or more, receive accolades and participate in Q and A's. The Festival, which runs from February 19th, 20th, and 21st also features films that are of special interest to teenagers. Sleeping Giant, an award-winning Canadian film, explores in explosive detail the emotional extremes of adolescence and the catastrophic events that occur. It is a finely observed, whip-smart study within a suspenseful and provocative story. It's an amazing line-up featuring Numb, Opening Night Gala, Sleeping Giant, Carol, Montage of Student-produced films (Brookswood, RE Mountain and Langley Fine Arts), Trumbo and Room (starring, Langley student, Jacob Tremblay). Not only that - the Numb cast and crew, including the renowned composer Alain Mayrand will be at the premiere screening on Friday night. Check him out at http://alainmayrand.com/
